LaJolla Gem

Historic hotel walking distance to restaurants. Ocean view rooms are small but wonderfully situated, especially #406 which is a corner room. Nice bar and restaurant downstairs, too.

Great location, but old and small.

Location: Close to the beach
We checked in early because we couldn't find beach parking, and it was a good thing since "our room" had flooded and they were planning to downgrade us, in spite of our #of occupants and what I had paid for. I was pretty mad and they reluctantly said they'd "try" to give us what we reserved. Had we checked in on time, we probably would have been out of luck at that point. We asked for our luggage to be sent to the room, they assured us on several occasions it would be, but when we got back from the beach it wasn't and we had to wait 30 mins for it to be delivered with sandy, starving kids. The room is super old, has a TINY bathroom, no safe, no closets, and the TV didn't work. Not really what we expected or paid for. We weren't offered any VIP amenities and when I asked, it was an off site gym pass. LAME. The next day the manager was nice and comped our parking, but I wouldn't rush back to stay here. It was worth about half of what we paid.

pool staff hit on my girlfriend

The bathroom was too small, no counter space at all to leave lotion, makeup etc... toothbrush fell in the toilet due to lack of space

My girlfriend was aggressively hit on at the pool

My girlfriend was aggressively hit on at the pool by the pool employee while I was away for an hour. She texted me to tell he was making her feel uncomfortable. He was blatantly looking at her breasts and insisting he take her out at night. She told him she had to leave now so that he would eventually leave her alone. The general manager told me that they normally do not condone this and that they had contacted HR and the situation will be dealt with. Never heard back from him or the assistant manager. It was as if it was no big deal, like the ac was not working or something like that. Pretty upsetting and disappointing to say the least. At least a follow up letter or phone call from management would have been nice and reassuring. Definitely do not recommend this place, but everyone is welcome to take their chances if they like.

Great hotel in the older classic style. Perfectly located in the heart of La Jolla. Walk to everything - shopping, beach, restaurants.

Nice hotel close to the beach.

Everything met my expectations. This is an older hotel which I prefer. From the location to the amenities the Grande Colonial was perfect for us in La Jolla. Had a great time will be back. Definitely!

close to the cove but dirty

Location: walk, shop, eat and visit the beach
If cleanliness is important to you this is not the place to stay. The carpets were very stained and dirty. The top comforter had blood on it. the sheets, towels, drapes, headboard and upholstery were stained and dirty. The baseboards had not been dusted recently as dust was very evident. Behind the doors and in the corners of the bathroom was dirty and appeared not to be swept, vacuumed or mopped in weeks. The bathroom didn't have any space to put things on, just a small shelf. The blow dryer kept shorting out. I requested another one which did the exact same thing.

The Grande Colonial is amazing! Hotel staff are very professional and accommodating and the place itself is beautiful. Only negative for me was that check in being at 4pm is pretty late and seldom do they allow you to check in earlier. It's probably best to time your arrival accordingly but really, there isn't anything bad to say about this hotel.
