Such a great weekend

After checking in and having some minor TV issues with our room (the TV is attached to the wall such that you cannot turn it to face the bed, and it basically faces a desk and a chair - never seen anything like it), we were so pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a better room after talking with Darius at the front desk (who was amazing). The views in this historic hotel are gorgeous, and the restaurant down near the lobby is incredible - had one of the best dinners ever there. I can't recommend this place enough! Beautiful hotel, even better service.

Upscale and pleasant, great location

This was our second stay here, not as good as our first. Asked for partial ocean view and our room was 2 floors above the alley with lots of noise from restaurant fans, I think, and alley traffic. A bit disappointed. View of ocean still good. Last time, we were able to take advantage of their courtesy car, but this time, valets were not as willing to provide service. They rarely greeted us when we came or left, never once opened the door for me. Too busy on phones or talking to each other. Seems they were better trained a year ago. Would only stay here again if price was right.

Beautifully clean hotel in fantastic location

Pros: Location to La Jolla village and other coastal towns. Also short drive to San Diego airport - about 25 minutes.
This was our second stay at the grande and we weren't disappointed. Traditionally furnished with modern edge. Contemporary bar. Lovely staff. Comfortable beds. Our only negative is that as the bar is small and open to the public, it's not always possible for residents of the hotel to get a seat/drink - a couple of times we were turned away because they were full which was a shame.

POOL IS FREEZING!!!

Pros: Rooms are very nice and clean.
Cons: POOL SHOULD BE AT THE TEMP THEY PROMISE
Location: Book at LaValencia and get a nice warm pool. The Cove is lovely for a walk since you can't go swimming.
They claim the pool is heated to 84-82 degrees. It was like 72 when I was there, cold. Compare that to La Valencia down the road, pool is heated to 82, and it's very warm, even in the shade. I told management and they did nothing. I stayed at the Grande Colonial to have a heated pool and enjoy the day. Rooms are very nice, staff at the front desk is not responsive to problems, not what you expect in the "good" hotel. I stay mostly in 4/5 star hotels, and know good service....they don't have it.

Nice Hotel disappointed at personnel

Cons: Better trained personnel
Location: Location in the best feature of this Hotel, everything is close, dinning, shopping movies, beach, etc. Restaurant in hotel is amazing.
Rooms are not up to par for a Hotel in La Jolla, they are old and not very well put together,. small baths and old looking. The Hotel has one of the best locations in La Jolla, Should be a lot nicer. Had to call front desk to get room cleaned twice during my 5 night stay.

Nice but needs update

The staff was nice and location was great but the hotel itself could use some updates and remodeling to make it look fresh again.

Excellent choice and good value for money

Every time we come to the San Diego area we stay at this hotel. The service is excellent, the rooms nice, location is prefect, and it has a great old California style feeling in a beautiful package. Recommend it highly. Always a good experience.
