disappointing but still a nice hotel

Pros: the room was spacious -and very clean
Cons: the attitude and conversation of the night clerk the crowded lobby the dangerous parking
Location: we went to the beach, the Naval base and the movies Nice restaurants
the check in clerk was serious when he said he was taking a deposit on the room in case someone stole the towels...highly offensive since we paid in advance. Hotel is small and crowded, parking lot is the worst! Day hostess/concierge was delightful. Breakfast was nice. Room was a good size and very clean. I was hoping for a little more wow for the price.

Pros: Staff was nice
Cons: Needs better Wi-Fi.
Location: There is an In and Out Burger within walking distance as well as sushi and Thai food within a couple of blocks.
Upon opening the door, there was a strong smell of chemicals. Major turn off. Then the TV selection was very low and there was no guide to tell you what channels were available. The parking is difficult to use due to the way it is laid out if you are in anything bigger than a civic. The staff was friendly even though she was alone and overwhelmed. I personally witnessed her running to a guests room to see if they had left their X-Box in their room. She brought it right back down and then let them know. Then she was able to check us in while trying to field phone calls and questions from those around us. The price we paid was double what it should have been for the location.

Nice place

We chose this hotel because somebody we know recommended it and because it let pets stay free. They need to provide some sort of grassy area for dogs to go to the bathroom for me to consider it pet friendly though. No grass whatsoever. That would be my only concern. The room was nice. It was definitely clean when we got in because it was not ready at check in time and when we came back a half hour later the floor was still wet from being mopped.

Parking is too small. Smelly bathroom I think coming from a drainage system that won't go away even if you spray the bathroom. Aircon. It working properly. Too pricey for an old hotel that don't offer that much considering it's condition.

Nice and Convenient

This is one of our go to places, for we have 3 sons that live in Pacific Beach, so it is a very convenient drive. I love that they are dog friendly, and they provide little bags in the parking garages for your "doggy" business. I love the fact they have free parking too. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Small Over-Priced Hotel

Pros: The beds were comfortable.
The hotel was very small. There was not a lot of outside pace and the pool was very very small. We didn't even have a balcony.

Weird location

We were disappointed with the location of the hotel and our first impression when we drove up. Most La Quinta hotels I have stayed at in the past were nicer. The hotel had a funny smell. Especially in the hallways. It smelled like there was some water damage previously that left a moldy smell. The carpets in the hallway were filthy. We had to change rooms due to the fact that one of the beds felt damp. On the bright side, the hotel staff was very nice and helpful. They actually let us check out a day early with no charges for the last minute change. My family decided that we would rather drive through the night than stay in a hotel one more night that we did not feel comfortable in.
