Great location! Great hotel!

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: Friendly staff. Great location. Very clean. We loved the Jacuzzi because the wind there is pretty chilly.
Cons: Bring ear plugs. Not just because of the sea lions outside, but the rooms are not sound proofed. Lots of noise from the halls and patio area.
Location: Fishing, paddle boats, paddle boards, glass bottom boat rides, good food and beautiful scenery. We didn't do the Seaside Lagoon but it looked fun.
This was my first visit to the Portofino in Redondo Beach. I wanted something near the marina so that we would have lots of exciting things to do. Nothing about our weekend stay disappointed! The Portofino is not a cheap place to stay. But you pay for the location of being right on the water (marina and harbor, not ocean front) and for the conveniences. The parking is really expensive, in my opinion, and we didn't even bother with the restaurant Baleen because of the price (we were a party of 4, including teenagers). We found cheaper places to eat in Hermosa or a quick drive to your favorite fast food spot. Olympus Paddle Boards was the cheapest place to rent stand up paddle boards and they meet you really close to the hotel. Sport fishing is also right out of the marina near the hotel and we took the Redondo Special. Lots of fish caught and lots of fun. Free bike rentals make getting around so much fun.

Nice, but not a resort

Posted Aug 6, 2017
Pros: The location for our purposes of touring north, south, and east of LA couldn't have been better. The free bikes (2 hrs or less) were great!
Cons: Parking could be free. The hotel is expensive, so charging $27/day for parking seemed pretty silly. The $11/day "facility" fee seemed unnecessary.
Location: The location is not on a beach, but behind a protective seawall which serves as a quiet harbor for the adjacent marina where seals & dolphin played.
While we found the Portofino to be in the perfect location for our 5 day stay focused on touring north, south, and east of LA, the only thing I would note as Impressive is the location. The double-bed, ocean view room was between small and cramped for the 3 of us. There was no place to recycle plastics, glass, paper, etc. I found that quite surprising for a California business. The phone didn't work so we called the front desk when needed with our cell phones. The cleaning staff, while good, had a disposition to forget to restock our coffee cups and wine glasses, so we called the front desk frequently to have them returned. The free bikes were a great way to get up to Hermosa Beach - a beautiful sandy beach - less than a mile from the hotel's door step. Redondo Beach shops, fish markets, and pier were just a 15-minute walk south. I found the $38/day parking & "facilities" fee a bit extreme, even for southern California. The pool wasn't much larger than a spa and couldn't logically be called a "swimming" pool.

Portofino Hotel

Posted Jul 26, 2017
Pros: setting
Cons: service is lackluster although friendly.
Location: it's at the beach, that says it all.
Beautiful location, but the location and the experience do not quite match up. Hopefully they will improve in the future.

Maintenance issues: for the high price, one should expect these issues to be mitigated.

Hotel is more water front, not beachfront. Thank goodness for the LA weather because our air unit would not cool off. Had the hotel engineer come check and still no comfort. The valet and outside staff were excellent, knowledgeable, and prompt!

Good stay

Posted Jul 23, 2017
Pros: Staff, cleaning staff and location. Able to rent bikes right there and the area next to the lobby is very inviting for drinks or during the day.
Cons: The elevator is a bit scary as when you think you have reached your floor-you have 5 seconds to wait before the doors open.
Location: The beach and restaurants are close by. The area is next to Hermosa Beach with all of their fantastic shops and restaurants.
Have stayed here before and thought it was just okay. This time, it felt cleaner and the staff was certainly more friendly and accommodating.

One night stay

Posted Jul 10, 2017
Pros: location
Cons: Mattress and towels could use an overhaul. Mattress was a bit soft and springy, towels a bit scratchy..
Location: Right on water near Marina. Wharf nearby.
Room cleanliness, size, and comfort was on par with a standard 3 Star hotel with a 4 Star price. It was on the water, so wasn't surprised with the pricing. You must pay a $27 a day fee for parking whether you park it yourself or use the valet. When we arrived back from a night out (mid-night ish), the valet was not available....so the security guard parked the car (was a bit skeptical about that). It was only a one night stay, so could be we an anomaly .

The hotel was nice and clean.

Posted Jul 10, 2017
Pros: Clean
Cons: Free morning coffee. Rooms noise level.
Location: Redondo Beach has a lot of interesting shops and restaurants in walking distance. The hotel does provide bicycles to guests and there are bike lanes
The hotel itself is nice. Lobby is tiny and when groups arrive, i.e. weddings, it is noisy and crowded. Our room was 2 doors from the lobby, so always noisy. Rooms are clean and comfortable but they charge for morning coffee. Kuerig cups are $1 in room each. A very small margarita on the rocks in the lobby bar was $17. Not worth it. Be careful because they charge extra for everything, $27 for parking (self and valet are the same!) However, they give you a pair of ear plugs for the sea lions that are in the harbor. I didn't hear them for all the noise in the lobby.

Thank you so much for your response I am sorry the wedding parties were too loud near your room. If you stay with us a next time we would be glad to put you in a room not near the lobby area. The Kuerig cups in your room are complementary, you are only charge the $1 if you ask for extra ones. I am sorry for the miscommunications with our parking charges. Our website does list that all guests are charged $27 per night. We thank you so much for being a customer and hope to see you soon.
