The hotel grounds are well kept and they have a nice restaurant with free breakfast and a patio bar overlooking rushing water. The location, at basically one end of Main Street, is convenient for exploring. The staff was friendly. The bed is comfy. The hotel in general though seems to care more about being cool than practical. For instance they have a sliding door on their bathrooms that not only does not lock closed but tends to slide open if you're not careful, and that you can also push up and open. It looks nice but is not terribly functional. Housekeeping also made toilet paper flowers out of the last 2 feet of toilet paper in the roll, which basically just looked like a messy mountain of wadded up and used toilet paper on top of the roll. Also personally in my double queen room the toilet seat was not connected to half the toilet. The walls did not seem very thick either. You could hear every sneeze in the hallway amplified in your room.

Lovely room and a delicious dinner at the hotel's restaurant. We were assigned a room in the Mill, which was fine with us. That evening, tho, we had a terrible thunderstorm and had to walk a distance from our building to the restaurant (got very wet in the blowing rain). Also, the heater in our room made a terrible racket each time it turned on and then noisily ran for several minutes. We both struggled through a very restless night's sleep.

Please visit us again and choose a Roundhouse room. This will ensure you are not facing the weather elements. Hope to see you soon and glad you did enjoy your stay inspite of the rain.

Beautiful and clean, but poorly designed room

Posted Feb 21, 2017 on Hotels
Very clean, nice staff, above-average complimentary continental breakfast. But rooms are not designed well and do not make for a comfortable stay (beds with hard-cornered foot boards that you can easily walk into and bang up a knee, "barn-style" bathroom doors that are loud and are about as private as a shower curtain, window dressing that only go from blackout to way too bright, not enough night stands so I had to put my things on the floor on my side of the bed, etc).

Two story inn that held up thru the earthquakes

Posted Feb 6, 2017 on Hotels
We stayed just one night after arriving on the Tranzalpine train. Honestly, we wanted to pick a place that did not pose a threat should there be another earthquake during our stay. Silly but the truth. This 2 story inn held up just fine. The innkeeper was very friendly and our suite was clean as a whistle. The innkeeper helped us arrange a taxi for dinner and then an airport transfer. This place was quiet, clean, and comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Meh

Roundhouse is a nice idea - taking over an old mill in a small town with a strong arts community. But it's been handled by a novice and the challenges are apparent, and affect your stay. First things first, our room was in another building - the building was across the river and through a parking lot. Imagine doing that walk in New York in January... The lounge and restaurant are in the main building so if you want any F&B that's where you need to go. So if you want to get up at 8am for breakfast, be ready to bundle into your winter gear just to get to the restaurant. The room was sparse - it felt very bare. There was no art on the walls and no real personality - maybe they were depending on the exposed brick to create the environment. Some of the furniture was really nice, but then the light fixtures were terrible...the decor was a toss up. The walls are paper thin - it may just be drywall separating the rooms. The receiver for the television was around the side of the room and in a closet - so you couldn't actually use the tv. These are all just little things that ultimately add up ... I wanted to love Roundhouse, but it just isn't a great hotel.

Thank very much for your feedback. We value your opinion and we are very sorry if you were disappointed in any way. We took an old factory that was in total disrepair and an eyesore in the city and turned it into a light airy loft with a minimalistic decor. All of our furnishings are locally sourced and designed. We do understand tastes vary and always regret to hear that a guest is disappointed. I hope that you will have the opportunity to visit Beacon again in the near future as the city continues to grow and add very artistic creative restaurants, galleries and events.

My travel was on short notice and Hotels.com was able to find me several options. The location was easy to find and the proximity to a variety of restaurants just right.
