Go on a wine discovery trip through the vineyards of this ancient town in one of France’s great winemaking regions. Visit a medieval hospital and a Romanesque cathedral.

The town of Beaune is surrounded by vineyards and wineries and is known as the wine capital of Burgundy. Wine has been produced in the region for more than 2,000 years. Beaune's appeal also lies in its historic old town and ancient churches.

There are many ways to experience wine when you visit Beaune. One of the main reasons people come here is for the Wine Road. It is actually divided into five routes, corresponding to Burgundy’s wine growing regions. Drive or cycle through the beautiful French countryside and stop by wineries to sample their produce. When you are back in Beaune, visit the Wine Museum to learn about winegrowing and its traditions in this part of the world.

Explore Beaune’s walled old town and tour its principal attraction, the Hospices de Beaune. See the pharmacy, kitchens and wards of this 15th-century former hospital. During November, come here for the Hospices de Beaune wine auction. Then go to Notre Dame Church for its renaissance bell tower and 15th-century tapestries.

Beaune isn’t just about the wine. There are more than 100 restaurants, all taking pride in serving gourmet French or international cuisine. On Saturdays, browse the stalls of the fine food market in the old town.

To experience Beaune’s entertainment scene, watch a movie at Cap Cinema and take your seat for a performance at the Municipal Theater.

Situated in eastern France, Beaune is well served by roads and trains from Paris, Mulhouse and Lyon. Get around on foot or by car, bike and bus. As well as enjoying Beaune's architectural beauty and wine, embark on a day trip to nearby Dijon for its medieval and Renaissance buildings and Roman history.

Make dinner reservations in advance especially if your visiting on Sunday. Very limited availability for the nicer restaurants on Sunday nights. Stay away from Le Vintage in town. Food was absolutely inedible.

Very cute little medieval town with a ton of charm, great restaurants, and shops. The old hospital in the central is especially unique and we took a great tour there.

Beaune is a lovely place with some very nice cafes and restaurants. It is also the home of Burgundey wine! It is a nice town to walk around it and surrounding areas are also very scenic. You have the added bonus of various chateaus to visit.
