Maybe too authentic

Posted Sep 23, 2016
Pros: The helpful staff and the location were great.
Cons: Updating the room, especially the beds, door, windows and remodel the bathroom.
Location: Tonnes of shops and restaurants and by Beijing standards, close to the tourist sites.
We wanted to have a more authentic experience in Beijing by staying in a hotel in one of the historical hutong districts. Indeed, the hotel was in the hutong district and relatively close to a major Metro station (Dongsi station). On the plus side, the courtyard was very pleasing and the staff spoke great English and provided us with information about tours and directions to restaurants and tourist sites. The room on the other hand is not a 4-star hotel room. The bed was not comfortable, the air conditioner was somewhat noisy and bathroom needed to be updated. The shower, toilet, sink and tiles were old and unpleasing. On the positive side, the room was nicely decorated and they provided us with pajamas that were cute.

No, the manager is extremely inflexible. Poor customer service.

Charming hotel

Posted Sep 2, 2016
Charming traditional courtyard hotel, 5-7 minutes walk to Dongsi subway station. We stayed in a lower-priced room which was quite small, but there are bigger rooms. The hotel even provided free airport pick-up ( available when staying more than 3 nights). It was a good experience.

Lovely Authentic Hutong Area

Pros: Different to anything else in China
Cons: Earlier Check in
This was a great alternative to staying in a typical western Hotel. Well worth the money.

Lovely traditional hotel

Posted Jul 16, 2016
We loved our stay at Sihe courtyard hotel. The suite where we stayed was traditionally styled with a very large and comfortable four poster bed. The only negative was that the sofa where one of the children slept was very hard, and also extra bed was charged on top of the room charge despite us specifying a group of two kids and two adults in our booking.

Excellent staff, great breakfast but poor location

Posted Jun 27, 2016 on Orbitz
This is more like a traditional hotel, which is recommended if you want to remember how it was before the big chains. The rooms are cozy and nice, and there is a nice backyard in a traditional Chinese style. Good breakfast which varies from day to day, and the hotel staff is superior and very helpful, and speaks good English. The only problematic issue may be its location. The hotel is located pretty deep on a very narrow street which taxi drivers hate to get into. This means you'll have issues when trying to get there by taxi (a taxi driver will likely want to drop you at the street entrance, leaving you up to a ~500m walk). Getting a taxi during peak hours might also be difficult, so if your flight leaves in the afternoon, expect to take subway to the airport. 15 minute walk from Dongsi station. Be aware that the Orbitz map puts this hotel in a wrong place. Google maps also have it in the wrong place.

nice little hotel in old Beijing

Posted May 5, 2016 on Hotels
delayed flight meant we arrived very late (1am) the hotel is tucked away in the tiny streets of the Hutong area, thankfully we had a very kind and helpful taxi driver that managed to find the place. I would recommend getting the hotel to send a car for you. The hotel and rooms are traditional Chinese village house style, very quaint. Its a quiet area, very dark narrow alleys. no sign of anything untoward, but single females may feel slightly nervous in those alleys at night. Hotel reception spoke good english and were helpful getting taxi's etc. Breakfast was OK, nothing special, but it included both asian and western foods which was great for us. Bed was not as hard as some I've slept on in China, but was still definitely firmer than most westerns are used to. Beautiful bedspreads, and antique (at least in looks) furniture, plenty of space for the 3 of us for 3 nights.

Quaint little spot tucked away in busy BJ streets.
