Above average hotel in Beijing

As with most upscale hotels in China, this one tries to make itself appear to be luxurious, with marbled floor and other fine decorations at the entrance. But in reality, the design, construction and maintenance are quite poor, and they show everywhere, from the broken toilets, to the dirty chairs in the dining hall, not to the quality you'd normally would associate with a Crowne Plaza, definitely not a five star as claimed. The air conditioning is often turned off by the hotel management, even though the room temperature can reach into the high 70s. The services, as with many places in China, are, however, quite good and satisfactory. One big plus is, the smoke free rooms are indeed smoke free, with no trace of the smell. The bottom line, this is among the very few higher end hotels one can find in Zhong Guan Cun area in Beijing.
