A reasonable stay

Stayed in the Days Inn Hotel for one night on a stop over flight back from Japan. The reviews seemed fairly positive, yet the stay was fairly average.
First and foremost, I cannot doubt the location of the hotel. It is easy to find and is a great location (great if you only have a morning in Beijing).
Upon arrival, we paid our bill but then was asked to pay and additional deposit for the room and in our case this was half the price of the room. This wasn't something I objected to, but there was no mention of the deposit and I was a touch confused, as I've never been asked to pay a deposit in a hotel before in Europe, States or Asia.
The room was reasonably clean, although it had a large amount of dents, scuffs and cracks in the furniture, walls and bathrooms that brought its demeanour down slightly - but like I said it was clean.
During the night I discovered that the corridor of my room became very noisy with banging doors reverberating down the passageway and minimal soundproofing to the rooms.
Plus side the linen and towels where very clean, although overly crisp. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they also spoke good English.
All in all - if I was in Beijing for one or two nights again, this experience would not put me off staying at the Days Inn, although I wouldn't want to stay here for any length of time.
