I liked that most staff were helpful and spoke some English. I didn’t like the location as the immediate area around it was kind of deserted., you had to walk 10-15 min to closest metro or mall.

Adequate, not great.
Nice rooms. Mediocre food at buffet restaurant. No bar - had one in the lobby but it’s closed. You can relax only in the noisy restaurant - not good. reasonably good location. On the map it looks close to Tiananmen and Forbidden city, but scale is deceiving. Was much further than we anticipated.

National Day Chaos
The location is great and so was the room but because of National Day, we had to leave the hotel very sudden one day earlier than expected. We just found a note laying on the floor saying that the road and nearby MRT stations would be closed off. We originally had to check out on ND and after we got the note and went to speak with an employee, we where told I wasn’t possible due to the closure. We therefor abruptly had to pack our bags and find another hotel outside of the city center. We were promised the money back for that last night within 2/3 days but haven’t received anything yet.

I was disappointed by this property with respect to two key areas: (1) The main restaurant on 2nd floor for breakfast, lunch and dinner was mediocre at best. Food was cold, poor quality, The quality of the food was poor and not appetizing at all. Note, the restaurant on the 3rd floor was good, had dinner there twice and found it very good, fresh and flavorful; (2) We reserved a non-smoking room however stepping out of the elevator onto the floor our room was on (10th) all we could smell was the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways and this smell was present in our room as well (not as strong as the hallways).

This place gives the impression that it used to be a good hotel but is no more. Food quality is a real problem in the entire place, even with their expensive buffet. Difficult to find anybody speaking good English enough in the whole hotel to ask a question.

Very good!
Very good stay. Good location Big and clean room. Big twin beds. Very near to 2 subway stations - Xidan and Xuanwumen. We walked to Xidan shopping area, Tiananmen and Forbidden city. Heated pool 29deg and jacuzzi 40deg. Must wear swimming cap or shower cap if use the pool.

Hotel well located close to shopping mall
Checkout time is noon. On my last day I had a day tour to the Great Wall. Therefore I had to checkout early in the morning before going on Tour and a flight to catch in the evening. The staff has kept my luggage and once back from my day tour has allowed me to use the facilities in the swimming pool to have a shower get changed prior heading to the airport. Although officially I was no longer a guest at the hotel having checked out in the morning. This extra service makes all the difference and I have no hesitation to recommend it to anyone and to return to GM on my next trip to Beijing.

Perfectly central
This hotel is the perfect location for exploring the city centre. Only a 15 minute walk to the closet shopping mall where there is a variety of shops and western food as well as more traditional food eateries for local cuisine. The staff were friendly and despite over an hours wait for the room, it was a comfortable base with excellent room service each day. A great hotel, would highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Mercure. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The business manager Mr George was very kind and accomadating. He went out of his way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Would recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Wrong Location of the hotel on Apple Maps
Don't go by the location on the map. From the Xuanwumen subway station, take exit B2 and turn right (towards Xi Dan). The hotel is located at about 400m, on your right-hand side. The hotel staff barely speaks English. It is safe to have the addresses and some essential phases translated into Chinese.

Outside looking of the hotel not so great but inside is so beautiful. We felt so welcomed on arrival Oct 2/17 [don't know if it was because of national week] all staffs in the lobby were so friendly, helpful, professional & pleasant. We were surprise by the manager who even tried to help us to move our luggage to our room when bell boy was busy. They upgraded our premium room to executive room which was very quiet [good sound proof], newly renovated & spacious. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Good quality control by manager checking during breakfast time. Housekeeper was so nice & pleasant. The only thing I can pick on was the mattress were little bit worn out so up with some backache every morning. Few mins walk to 1 subway station, another subway close by, walking distance to few big department stores. Whats app is blocked in Beijing but We chat works.
