Poor design = very noisy, stinky stay

Posted Aug 30, 2015
Pros: Renovated rooms. Comforters not blankets on the beds.
Cons: Pay attention to your pool noise. Fix your broken-down beds.
Location: This is basically in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer.
This hotel is centered around a central indoor courtyard with a pool. Lovely in theory, but horrible in execution. Terrible sound-proofing (and inconsiderate parenting) means that you'll hear screaming children and splashing until the pool closes at 10pm. We had a room on the exterior of the courtyard, but even there, we could smell the chlorine and feel the dampness from pool evaporation. The room was generally clean, but the king bed had ridiculously tiny pillows and its springs were completely shot on one side.

Up scale hotel

Posted Aug 23, 2015
Pros: It was stylish and comfortable.
Location: The location was near the freeway for travelers. It was close to downtown Bellingham and very close to Westerb Washington University.
Hotel was well appointed and seemed to have had a recent upgrade. All furnishings looked new and stylish. This quality of hotel could compete with downtown hotels in Seattle, Vancouver, Dallas or other big cities - a surprise for Bellingham. The only detraction was the shower head. The shower was big and stylish but the shower head needed a quick maintenance job. We reported it to the front desk and they were going to send someone right up to do the repair Over all, it was a very nice hotel.

Massive construction ongoing ... was not notified

getting in and out of the hotel was a nightmare due to all the construction. Have stayed and worked at this hotel since its opening in the 1970's ... was very disappointed

Nice Hotel near Cascades and San Juan Islands

Posted Aug 17, 2015
Pros: The room service was nice after a long day in the parks. It is also in a good location to go to Starbucks and out to dinner.
Cons: Get new mattresses, suitcase stands, and provide a free breakfast at least to reward members as advertised on website.
Location: Visited North Cascades National Park, Mt. Baker National Forest, Chuckanut scenic highway, and whale watched with San Juan Cruises out of Bellingham.
Hotel is conveniently located near Historic Fairhaven with great places to eat and shop. We visited Mt. Baker, North Cascades, and San Juan Islands National Parks. Hotel was nicely decorated, good room service food, nice pool and hot tub, modern lounge with music. I was disappointed that my bed was so lumpy and basically had no support or firmness left in it. My back started hurting the first night I was there. There were no suitcase stands to place heavy suitcases on. Had to kneel on my hands and knees to look for clothes and pack when leaving. Front desk said the mattresses were to be replaced and the suitcase stands were on order. I was expecting more comfort from a Best Western Plus. We stayed in Best Western Plus at Ocean Shores and Chehalis and the rooms were bigger, more comfortable, the beds were way more comfortable, and they also had free breakfast. I thought this hotel had free breakfast for Best Western Reward members but was never offered after showing my Rewards card.

Comfortable

Posted Aug 16, 2015
Pros: Staff and the lobby
Cons: Complete the remodel of the hallways and less chlorine in the pool and jacuzzi.
Location: Location is directly off the freeway, behind a strip mall. Do not let this deter you. It is easy to get to nearby restaurants and downtown.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The location is convenient but do not expect any views. In fact the view out of the back of the building is of their storage area. Even thought the location is less than visually spectacular, the newly remodeled lobby surprised us as we walked in. The lobby is both comfortable and elegant and the deserts from the restaurants were very tasty.

Construction and chlorine

Posted Aug 2, 2015
Pros: Convenient, attractive rooms and nice staff.
Cons: Soundproof windows.
Location: It is very close to shopping. It is also within minutes of Bellingham's historic Fairhaven district and the marina where the ferries dock.
The hotel is located in a shopping center. Our discounted room was overlooking a large construction site and was noisy. The hotel is built around a central courtyard with all hallways open to the courtyard. The hotel's indoor pool is in the courtyard and the smell of chlorine permeates the air. If you want breakfast in your room, be sure and order the night before as they ran out of the continental breakfast by 9:00 in the morning. This is a Best Western Plus hotel which comes minus the included breakfast bar at other Best Western hotels. It will be a Sheraton Four Points by October. We got the announcement under our door during our last night there.
