Rooms were spacious. Bkfst was good. But the guy at the reception could show a bit of friendliness at check in. He was cold as a fish. However, Maria, at checkout, was warm and super helpful.

We hung our towels up as we did not need new ones each day but they were replaced each day We required more in our tea and coffee box such as sugar and creamer BUT Staff were fantastically friendly and helpful

Beautiful restored Austrian Chateau style hotel in a gorgeous area. Clean, well-maintained. Great breakfast buffet and friendly staff. Situated in a stunningly beautiful location with nice walking trails. Highly recommend.

Staff was very friendly. We are vegetarian, they made special dinner for us. View from the room was spectacular. Breakfast was great. Place was clean. Overall, it was great place.

A huge and expensive mistake.
We have stayed in 7 hotels during our trip to Norway and this was the worse and the only one we regret staying. It is quite pricey and it's advertised as this very relaxing beach hotel, for us it was not! They gave us a run of the mill room close to the main road, in an annex of the main building, room was just dull and depressing. Reception lady was missing curtesy and it had a "we don't care" about you sort of feel. Parking was free and very convenient and we had a good breakfast...but that was it.

The hotel is situated in a lovely spot on the water in this historic town. It's a beautiful old building, although our three-bedroom apartment was in the modern addition on the back. We made use of the full kitchen and were glad for plenty of space for our family of four. The breakfast, which was included, was delicious. Parking was a breeze in the underground garage.

beautiful lake view great hotel location - short distance to Steinsdalsfossen very friendly & helpful staff good a la carte menu unfortunately the parking lot is located near our room, a bit noisy during checkin period & early morning window cannot be opened, can only see the lake behind the glass :( better if more fruits & varieties of food at breakfast buffet

Lovely setting on the water with views of mountains and pretty gardens. The dining rooms were beautiful and decorated in period furnishings. The rooms (we had a suite) were quite spacious but in need of care and updating. Furniture was worn, lightbulbs were missing, dusting was needed. Once grand hotel needs TLC.

I emailed the hotel enroute to them asking if they did buffet as had stayed at two others this week. I got a reply stating they did not have a booking for us. We arrived and they did room was lovely fjord view clean we booked for buffet arrived and the staff very lax did not seem to k ow what doing also felt there was a biased there some people being served with smiles friendly and had drinks poured out water included ours was put on table and walked off we sat at table as were not sure whether we just helped ourselves then eventual staff come over looked at us and said just help yourself. Food was amazing cannot fault the buffet. Breakfast again lovely could have do e with more choice of breads. Check out great male at reception good custoner service. Felt that the head waiter at dinner unprofessional in that he came into the dinning room to get juice in shortsobviously off duty

Fantastic stay and views! Impressive Hospitality!
Super lovely place that has been owned by the same charming and delightful family for 9(?) generations. Great staff! Had such a wonderful stay and the most delicious meals. Breakfast waffles and jams were homemade and soooo yummy good! Best overall dinner we had in Norway but could use a deeper wine list less orientated to the American market. We stayed in the historical part of the hotel which is sweetly decorated in the traditional, old fashion style. A bit noisy because it is old and one can hear people walking in hallways but we enjoyed the decorating effort. The modern part has great views over the lake and a private decks to sit outside. Take time to hang out in the garden or on the main porch looking out at the lake. Great walks that go along the side of the lake. They had a fire going inside in the parlour and we meet some very nice people there traveling. The staff really made an effort to make sure our stay was great and we definitely appreciated it! Oh, can't forget our most dashing owner host for the art tour at night. So much fun talking with him! Poor man! Talked his ear off. Could have gabble with him all night! Already to planning to stay again on our next trip to Norway. Quite happy! Great vibe! Huzzah!

Hotel consists of historic building and a modern one, modern is blended in so you practically can’t see it from the street. Breakfast buffet is included, WiFi is fast and free, TV has HDMI so bring your FireStick or another favorite streaming device. Plenty of parking.

A wonderful experience
The location was great and the weather could not have been better. The food was also tops and the facilities good. We missed having two comfortable chairs but thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Views of Norways fjords that are stunning at best. The staff was equally excellent. I loved the hotel, breakfast, wifi and unlimited refills of your tea, coffee--24 hours a day. This is a hidden gem of a hotel and highly recommended

The Sandven Hotel is in a historic building with the charme from the 1800s. The room size fits to historic standards, however regularly two traditionalrooms represent one modern room. That gives the feeling of Junior Suites, Superior rooms or similar. Delicious and rich breakfast with fresh vegetables, fruits and plenty more. Walking distance to downtown and historic shipyard.

Pretty room, clean and more spacious than most!
Very few choices in norheimsund and the Thon hotel is good - the only reason I am not saying great is that I agree with other reviewers in that their food is very poor . Breakfast was ok - we had dinner the night before and it was really only barely edible the lobster bisque was fishy and tasted old the other dinner options were only marginal . They need to do better in the food department!!!

Really enjoyed our stay. The reception staff was excellent; very helpful and personable. We loved the view from our large 1 bedroom suite and the breakfast was fantastic. The dining room is beautiful with lots of character. Overall a great experience. Hope to go back.

Short stay in Norheimsund
We stayed in the new wing of this hotel, it was modern & stylish. Free parking and free wifi were provided. The staff were helpful with suggestions on local food options. We only stayed 1 night on our drive through the fjords back to Bergen. Would stay here again if ever in the area again.

Very nice. Nice view on waterfront. Good dinner and breakfast buffet. One of the few hotels that had AC with digital thermostat (since AC is usually not needed in Norway). Very quiet room. Nice staff. Near shops, museums, and ferry.

Nice view next to the fjord
we were in the family room and had the room with the view on the fjord. We walked around the premises and hotel is right on the city center. There a waterfall you could walk behind 10 min. drive from the hotel. There is also a sightseeing ferry leaving at 9am and returning at 5pm, do not miss.

Excellent ratings are difficult for me to give our; however, the beautiful location and overall experience we had at the Thon hotel was close. Food, service, and comfort levels were all quite good and we had no issues with anything other than the cramped parking for our rental car. If you don't like cruise ship congestion, then you should consider this quaint hotel on the fjords.

Enjoyed our stay at the Thon Sandven. The location was beautiful and the historic hotel was very comfortable. One of the best bed configurations of any place we stayed in Norway. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The dinning room was beautiful and the breakfast was exceptional.

The front of the hotel is a beautiful old building that houses the reception, lobby and restaurant. Most of the rooms are in a separate modern building at the back of the hotel. The rooms are simple but decent and the old building is very nice. You can get nicer rooms that face the fjord as well.
