We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds and lake. Accommodation was good -- the 'cottage' was a little old but very clean and a modern bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had lunch, dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurants. The food was excellent.

Room was too hot overnight, couldn’t turn off heating. Very stuffy, didn’t sleep well. Dirty towel left in bathroom.

The walls of the rooms are made of paper... I stayed at Stoke Place while travelling for work. While is would have like to have a good night sleep, you could hear every conversation and the TV from the room next door. I call reception to have a room change, but this could not be done. So I ended up not being able to sleep until 1am. It is also worth mentioning the rooms are very tired and need to be updated. I would not say the photos on Expedia or their website reflect the current condition.

Tired and shabby
I found the exterior and reception really nice but there was a shabbiness to the bedroom and bar . Could do with a lick of paint especially skirting boards. My room was on the top floor , up a very narrow steep staircase which was difficult with bags to carry . There are no lifts.

Very poor room really spoiled good service & food
The room was in a really poor state of repair, and stunk of stale cigarettes we were offered the room opposite but it had no heat and a portable electric panel heater to try and get it warm so we decided to stay put - but after some time realised the the heating was so noisy it kept us up, as it was a very late check in and we were really tired and needed to be up and away early in the morning. On the plus staff were friendly and breakfast was nice.

Bad experience...
Not as expected. Would not recommend to others. Rooms were cold n floor was dirty. Opposite standing shower was toilet seat. Everytime you open the shower door would get stuck. Not enough room to manouver . Staff were not very helpful. I can carry on but its not worth it.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Really lovely Christmas decorations and lights around the hotel which made it cozy and festive. No heating working in the room during the night so it felt a little chilly.

My room was outstanding but you had to ask if you wanted it cleaned and towels refreshed. Food was very overpriced and the hotel is in the back end of beyond. Nothing within walking distance to get other food options. Ie steak £35 Single malt whiskey £9 a shot Will not stay there again for that reason

The cummunal areas are excellent. Staff are very attentive and food is delicious. But the rooms are quite tired, cobwebs in corners and could do with a lick of paint!

Rip off bar pricing
Pretty good overall. Room good with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was a bit cold though. I wasn't happy with the pricing policy in the restaurant/bar. Small Pinot Noir £6.00 Medium £6.50 Large £12??? All is achieved by cynical pricing policy. Only small and medium listed on menu. Using the fact that medium was only 50pence more than a small I fell into the trap of ordering a large assuming it is around £8 but no, the staff have to charge you for two small ones. Needless to say i wont be eating there again.

We booked two rooms as a family but were given two separate rooms in different buildings 4 minutes walk apart. Check in time at 3 pm is rather late although we came for a group event starting at 10 am. The lighting in the room was dim. The gravel pathway between the buildings is not lit and there were pot holes filled with rain water on the pathway.

A pleasant stay.
The head waitress during breakfast was superb and gave outstanding service with a genuine passion to please. The room was ok but bedside tables and main dresser were sticky. The shower due to its design allowed some water to escape into the main bathroom, drenching the floor towel. The curtain didn’t allow full privacy as there were gaps on the sides which allowed passers by to see through the glazed area. Beautiful grounds and very pleasant staff.

This place is stunning and I will definitely come back again. Rooms are outstanding with the gorgeous views. Food is also fantastic. You can enjoy an amazing views while enjoying your meal.

Stunning garden with lake and swans
This hotel has a stunning backyard with a lake civered in water lilies and it has swans. The house is beautiful but old( built in 1690) thus there is no lift and the stairs are not easy to manage. Suprisingly the bathroom is very midern and everything works well. There are many chairs and benches to enjoy the view and rest. The restaurant is excellent, I had lamb and it was delicious. Definitely I will go again but it is not a fit for people will impaired mobility, with big luggage or small children.

Really good overall stay grounds are beautiful only downside was the plumbing our toilet blocked which was not a nice experience and no real apology was asked to move rooms. Sylvesta the bar man service was excellent and friendly needs a pay rise

Upgraded to a cottage but air conditioning didnt work neither did the fridge. Room needed decorating as it very worn. Bathroom very good but roof of shower needs attention. Basically rented a cottage for 2 nights. Staff very friendly and attentive. Gardens beautiful. Would stay again but inside the hotel.
