I can't say enough about this lovely country inn in a quiet village about 10 minutes northeast of Reading. The owner/manager (Dora) went above and beyond in the service provided to us -- excellent meals and very comfortable accommodations.

Lovely Country Inn

Pros: Very quiet and in a countryside location. The rooms are of a fairly high standard and very conformable
Cons: The checking in procedure and staff friendliness.
Location: Very rural but close to reading and Henley.
Booked this hotel as was a lot cheaper than the city centre hotels but still only 15 mins drive outside Reading. Upon arrival, the Inn was empty and I waited 10 mins before I managed to find anyone to check me in. I even tried to phone to speak to someone but it took me straight to answerphone. When someone finally arrived, it looked like the chef who didn't appear too pleased that I had disturbed him. I was handed the key but that was about all. Not the most welcoming check in I have ever experienced. However, things did improve and the room was very nice and modern and the bed extremely comfortable. The rooms are located in a annex type building attached to the pub. I didn't eat in the hotel for dinner but the breakfast was nice although fairly limited, but I was happy with the English Breakfast. Although a Business traveller, I would be happy to return with my family if I was ever in the area again.

Really friendly welcome in this country pub full of character. We had a lovely newly decorated double room, very comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast was excellent as was the real ale selection (3 on tap)

Pros: The room
Cons: It was not busy in the pub on a Saturday night when we arrived back at 10pm so it lacked atmosphere
This pub had rooms and ours was outstanding . The pub is a bit tired but with friendly staff who were helpful.

Cons: The chef
Chef at breakfast wore dirty whites, button missing and reeked of cigarettes. I suspect he had just been smoking and had come out of the kitchen to take our order!

Nice village pub with excellent home cooked food

Location: its not far off the main road into Reading and in a tiny sleepy village - no mobile connectivity, which will be a good or bad thing depending on you!
Stayed here for 1 night on business. Room was pleasant and clean, with a comfy bed. The pub was nice inside (could do with a few more comfy lounging chairs) and the staff were attentive and very friendly The food was lovely, particularly the home made steak and kidney pie in suet crust - WOW!! I would happily stay here again.

Comfortable room, friendly staff, good breakfast. Only problem - we couldn't turn the heating off at night and it was too hot.

Rural Hotel outside Reading

Pros: Location is quiet and yet close to Reading and Henley.
Cons: Menu could be a bit more varied. Downstairs rooms need bath rail or grip to get in and out of shower safely.
Location: Oxford, reading and Henley.
We have stayed at this Inn several times this year. Staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The menu could be a bit more varied especially the breakfasts.
