Edwardian hotel by the river Thames

Pros: Location - got a car park and not far from M4, London, Windsor and Heathrow. Room was clean.
Cons: Decor mostly. Could do with modernising.
First stayed in this hotel 35 years ago as a graduate trainee at a local company. Been updated over the years, as you might expect, but still much the same. I had booked a single room but got a double which was fine - nice and clean, if some of the decor is a little tired. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room with breakfast included in the rate, which was good value. The location is a little noisy as the road by the river can be busy and cars speed down it even at night. I also had the sound of the swans and geese honking on the river and an owl hooting in the small hours! There is an Italian restaurant downstairs and the bar serves more conventional "British" cuisine. It was very quiet on Sunday evening when I arrived but was buzzing on Monday night when I returned - mostly middle-aged clientele. the food was good in both though a bit expensive. Breakfast was good (served in the Italian)

This hotel has potential but looks shabby at the moment. Being next to the Thames the road is busy but position is great to explore the area and has its own car park. We had 2 night stay with breakfast, which was good. Bed was comfy and clean. Old fashioned decor with a lot of dark wood. If you're looking for luxury this hotel is not the one.

Nice enough for an overnight stay

We stayed for one night and found the hotel and room suitable for us. It's not modern and there was a special knack to getting the toilet to flush, but the room was comfortable and suited our basic needs. The Italian restaurant was lovely.

Comfortable, friendly, hotel in Maidenhead

Pros: Friendly staff.
Location: Maidenhead doesn't have much that's special. You won't be here unless something specific has drawn you. NT's Cliveden estate is not far.
Stayed here for the night - to save driving home after a party. Easy walk from Maidenhead town centre - though some might prefer to use a cab. Hotel has a its own car park and is reasonably easy to find - just a couple of hundred yards from the A4 in Maidenhead. Friendly reception and bar staff. Comfortable, but not large, room. With bath (and shower over the bath). Tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and iron provided. Good buffet breakfast. Hot food all seemed freshly cooked (even though it must have stood for a while), and good quality.

Poor value

Pros: River view
Heating was far too hot and couldn't be adjusted. There is traffic noise. The breakfast was uneatable. Slimy cold eggs with hasbrowns and sausages that tasted like dry cardboard. I have stayed recently in several bed and breakfasts for the same price that provide much more comfort and a freshly cooked breakfast. This was very poor value.

Cons: Rooms chilly in the morning, could have done with heating on.
Location: Bit isolated, but ideal if your a not bothered about going out in evening type. Cookham a short taxi journey away, nice village to visit.
Nice & friendly loved the location, staff really nice, breakfast was fantastic, room was spacious & very clean. 1st time here, pleased to say it won't be the last.

Old hotel, not maintained, seemed more like a hostel. Thick dust on skirting and carpet behind bed, set off asthma. Staff very helpful, cleaned room at 10 pm. Think staff are used to complaints.

Great if you get a Thames view room!

Pros: Breakfast and the view
Cons: Ready for new carpets and a lick of paint!
Old hotel with character, acceptable room, great staff and lovely buffet breakfast. When I looked, it was one of the cheapest in the area so good value. I got a room at the front overlooking the Thames - great view. Room a little tired but clean and bed very comfortable. Fans provided which was nice as it was the four hottest September days for ages!
