I have stayed at Mercure Tegel many times for more than 20 years. A great value at a place right next to TXL. It doesn't get any better. A happy guest.
I stayed one night to be close to the airport, but wish I had not. Tired, dated, and pricey compared to much nicer hotels 20 minutes away. Restautant was pricey for mediocre food. Airport Shuttle driver was miserable. I had put a couple euros in my pocket to tip the driver but did not end up giving it due to his foul disposition. Rooms very dated, but clean. All in all, would not stay there again.
The hotel is very close to the airport and the shuttle runs more or less continuously, so that is a great asset for tired travelers. It is clean and the beds are comfortable. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you buy food at the hotel, because there is nothing else within walking distance and the hotel restaurant prices are quite high.
