Beautiful hotel but no airconditioning

Posted Jul 1, 2016
Pros: Lovely decor comfy bed.
Cons: The breakfast is extremely expensive, €18 and the room is extremely hot.
Location: Very close to Alexanderplatz so excellent location
My first impression of the Mercure was good. The room is spacious, beautiful decor and fixtures. The only issue is my room was like an oven so didn't sleep properly for a few nights. There was also loud traffic noise as I had to have the window and the balcony door open to compensate for the lack of cooling. This hotel would probably be good in winter.

Nice Hotel in central location

Posted Apr 27, 2016
Pros: The spacious rooms with large Lounge area and plenty of cupboard space. Excellent view from the Balcony to Alexanderplatz and the Sky Tower.
Location: 5-10 minute walk to Alexanderplatz Station where frequent trains took you to all the main attractions in Berlin in a matter of minutes.
Hotel was easy to find on leaving the Airport Express train. Great view from the Balcony of the central hub of Alexanderplatz and the Sky Tower which was beautifully lit up at night. The S-Bahn and U-Bahn from Alexanderplatz took you to all the attractions in minutes and we certainly crammed plenty in on our three nights there. Would fully recommend Berlin for a short break.

Weekend Stay, Business

Posted Feb 1, 2016
Pros: Property is good value for money if guest wants only to sleep and shower with the day spent out in the City.
Cons: The bathroom shower cubicle tile grout was not clean and showed evidence of mold/mildew build-up around the controls and shower wand rail.
Location: Acceptable but not a great location. No eateries in the immediate area. Alexanderplatz is a large open plaza with mostly retail outlets.
Stars: This is two/three star property. Breakfast only, 3-seat bar that is manned by front desk staff. Location: Hotel is a solid ten (10) minute walk from Alexanderplatz U/S-bahn stations. There are no restaurants around the hotel property and Alexnaderplatz is equally absent of places to eat unless you are happy to do so standing at the S-bahnhof eateries. A tram from Alexanderplatz passes in front of the property. Property: This is a former East Germany housing block that has been converted to hotel use. The conversion is decent, rooms are spartan but nicely decorated with great views from the picture windows. Original to the housing use are the elevators for which the controls have not been updated i.e. call buttons seem to do little to bring an elevator to the floor so you spend lots of time waiting.
