Nice hotel with modern touches.Posted Oct 29, 2017
Nice spot in Bilbao. Nicely appointed modern room with a city view, but not that close to the water. Lots to see and do in Bilbao. We stayed one night. Friendly staff and most are English speaking. Lots of amenities including parking on site, which is a cost over and above the room. Comfortable bed. Breakfast was not included, but it may just have been our package. There is a seasonal pool, which was closed at the time of our stay in late October. They could do better at marking the elevator from the parkade up to the lobby level. We couldn’t find it and ended up walking up the steep street to get to the main entrance. Other than that, no complaints.

modern clean hotel in the old townPosted Oct 26, 2017
Pros: Clean decent sized rooms and it has a pool
Cons: more clarity on the cost of using the spa, and details of when the hotel's own pool is open
Location: Up a very steep hill, but with plenty of public transport nearby. Basilica of Begona is behind the hotel, the Casco Viejo 15-20 minute walk away
We were staying in Bilbao for 2 nights and wanted a hotel with pool so booked Occidental. Clean, comfortable, though the outside pool was closed for the season there is a spa under the hotel (different company) and for 20 euros you can visit the spa pool and gym. Note flipflops are compulsory so if you don't have any you have to buy them at 2 euros per pair, and the Spa charges 20 euros each visit - it's not a day ticket so if you want to go twice a day you have to pay 20 euros each time - but it is a superb spa with a swimming pool of around 20m plus another large spa pool, sauna, steam room etc. Our room was comfortable with kettle, safe and toiletries. Very firm mattresses, clean and new looking, the pillows are rather large and high. Breakfast buffet was 15 euros but plentiful with fresh fruit, juices, cereals, breads, meat, cheese and cooked options too. We walked up from the airport bus stop which took about 50 minutes through the Casco Viejo (old town), mostly uphill/up steep steps as the hotel is up the side of the hill above the Casco Viejo, but the metro is near to the hotel so very handy if you don't want to walk. Public transport is ridiculously cheap and quite easy to use. Would recommend the hotel and would certainly go back to it.

Pros: Well laid out with good views from lobby. Clean airy and comfortable.
Cons: Information on how to get to sights.
Location: Cathedral and the old quarter which is a must for eating pinchos and shopping.
After a long drive booked in and could only leave car for 20minutes before incurring a 19 Euro charge. Hotel love;y laid out. Our 12 year old disappointed not to be able to use pool( we didn’t read the information correctly you have to be 18). Could do with information on how to get into Bilbao sights e.g bus routes and directions on foot. Hotel close proximity to old town great once you have figured out using lift to metro station. Overall a great hotel in a great city

Good hotel, room comfortable, decent restaurant. Only issue was the spa/indoor pool was closed and this was not flagged at the time of the booking.

Nice stay in Bilbao, but well outside the centrePosted Aug 25, 2017 on Hotels
A good hotel but outside the main core of Bilbao. The service was good and the hotel is very new and modern. The pool area was very crowded and not very inviting as a result. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Good for a quick stay in Bilbao but as the centre of town is not walking distance, be prepared to drive in downtown Bilbao (not recommended due to one way systems etc) and find parking (difficult) or take taxis to/from the centre. We did the latter and were fine but it is a bit expensive (€5-10 per trip).

Not nice enough to be worth the distance. Staff is lacking in training or professional quality. However, seemingly new, clean, comfortable and modern rooms.
