Fab grounds. Great staff. Rooms small & thin walls

Posted Jul 20, 2015
The grounds are stunning and the staff are very helpful and polite. The rooms were a little small, and the bathroom was pretty tiny. The shower water pressure wasn't great, so showering was a bit time consuming. It seems a popular place for wedding receptions, quite understandably, but the thin walls mean that you can hear everything. If everyone is quiet then it's all good. If people are slightly noisy then you hear everything. Our first night was noisy which was a bit grim. However we called down to reception who jumped on it straight away and were great. The second night was quiet and all was fine.

A nice hotel but need improvement

Posted Jun 3, 2015 on Hotels
This is a nice country hotel away from the hustle and bustle especially if you are into golf and are old in years. Not a hotel for younger couples. we booked this hotel to use the massage therapy but discovered upon arrival it was closed on Sundays. as we had booked a Sunday we could not get this service. the service why we booked the hotel. this was not stated on the Hotels.com website or at any time during our booking so felt very disappointed. We managed to use the pool after spending time trying to find the staff there to get a towel and locker. On the good side reception staff were better and the hotel restaurant had excellent food however we requested a table near the window view one of four that were empty during our meal only to be told they were booked. The hotel room we had on the first floor had very noisy central heating when it was on. need sorting out. The hotel grounds are good and have nice walks. The room was clean and the bed was the best one I have ever slept in as far as hotels go. Very comfortable. our room was above a fire exit which was use by smokers during the late evening and you can guess they kept us awake. A nice looking hotel and area but needs improvement.

near perfection

Lovely views from room, beautiful setting, great food and facilities, but left an item of clothing in room and it seems that no-one can find it. Disappointing response. Only thing to have let the overall score down

Value for money, nice lake views

Posted Jan 30, 2015 on Hotels
This hotel is fine for golfing trips, and leisure. A little out of town for business trips and looking a little tired. Nothing bad just old, Staff friendly and helpful, evening meal and breakfast very nice and value for money. I stayed in January 2015 arrived and left in darkness but I think in summer the views over the lake would make the hotel a nicer prospect.

Welcoming but some improvements needed

Staff were very welcoming, and the bar food very palatable. Only 2 complaints were that the toilet in the room I stayed in did not flush, and the tiles in the pool changing room are extremely slippery when wet.

Rural splendor

Posted Oct 6, 2014 on Hotels
Lovely surroundings make up for dated hotel and not a bad price either. Gym had adequate equipment with dated pool and steam rooms which worked perfectly fine. Nice large bar area wth lots of golf types mongling around. Drinks a little expensive and food reasonable at a reasonable price. Woeth a stay ar this price and to stay on nice surroundings beats city centre hotel experiences hands down.
