Very pleasant rural location

Posted Feb 21, 2017
Pros: Quiet. Friendly hosts.
Cons: Very little
Location: The location is very rural but Poole / Bournemouth only a short drive away. The pretty small towns of Wareham and Blandford are not far away
This is a very good place to stay if you are looking for a quiet rural location. The room was comfortable and well equipped. We had an excellent breakfast. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended

lovely and peaceful

Lovely place this. It's a converted barn and the owners have used recycled/reclaimed materials where possible. Really quiet rural location, but easy to get to the A31. Bill gave me advice on where to get dinner so I can recommend the Botany Bay Inne which is 5 mins walk. Breakfast was fab, and we had chance to chat with Bill again who knows the local area really well so is a good source of advice. The room was immaculately clean as was the whole place, I would have no problem staying there again.

No staff was there. Hilltop Barn was locked.

Posted May 28, 2016
Pros: nothing. it was run down on the outside
Cons: everything. the host should have been there. the grass needed mowing. this is definitely not a professional business.
Location: there is nothing nearby. it is in the country and the gps had difficulty finding it. it is just someone's home and farm.
We arrived at Hilltop Barn approximately 3:15 pm. Check in was quoted as 4 pm. We waited in the car until after 4 pm. There was no sign on the door when the host would be back. We called their number repeatedly. There was no answer and we kept leaving messages. We called Expedia in the United States to try to find out about our reservation. They called the telephone and again only got voice mail. We kept loosing the call to Expedia and had to call back 4 times each time re-explaining that there was no one at the location. This is out in the country with no restaurant facilities. The only pub close by was closed. Finally after 4 pm we left and drove to Bournemouth to find a hotel. Of the 5 weeks we spent in England and Ireland, we never encountered a reservation where the host was not present earlier than check in. This is definitely not a professionally run bed and breakfast. When Hilltop did finally return my call that night, she said was late getting back and it was about 4:20 when she returned. We were exhausted having traveled so far and having no one to meet us at the B&B. My husband had medication he had to take and refrigerate. I do not understand any of the reviews giving Hilltop a rating. It is out by itself on a country road. The GPS had trouble finding it. The closest town is Bournemouth many miles away. It has a very un kept appearance driving up. I don't know if you could find it at night. it is on a poorly paved county road with no lights.

Great cosy stay

Great overall stay. Extremely good nights sleep. Very cosy feeling in the house. Good breakfast and in a very quiet secluded spot. Good for business or leisure to just escape the noise of the city. Only small issue, as a business user the wifi seemed quite slow from my room
