Close to food and three sisters

Posted Apr 24, 2017
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Breakfast buffet hashbrowns could be better, clean above the ceiling fan and warning signs regarding the carpark
Location: Lots of food places, 25min walk away from three sisters.
Overall the staff were very friendly and the hotel is close to facilities. I enjoyed my stay. However the room and bathroom is very aged. The ceiling fan had a lot of dust built on it and there was dust behind the bed. The breakfast buffet was not great and the hashbrowns were awful. Warning about the carpark: it is on top of this very steep hill so be careful when driving on it. Also, when exiting the carpark, exit at a diagonal as the hill could cause your car to scratch going down. Overall the stay was reasonably good despite this.

Beautiful old hotel in great location

Posted Apr 4, 2017
The hotel is just across the road from Katoomba Railway Station and is handy to a number of restaurants in the main street of Katoomba. While the room was acceptable, if unexceptional, the common areas of the hotel have beautiful old room with decor and furniture that are very evocative of earlier eras.

Very basic

Posted Jan 16, 2017
The room had an ensuite. This accommodation is perfect for travellers who like a bit of comfort above that offered in youth hostel accommodation. Be aware there is no air conditioning, no chair, nowhere to put your bag except on the floor in front of the closed room door when inside the room but at least you could open the window to look over the main street restaurants' kitchen exhausts.

Great value for a piece of history

Posted Jan 10, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: The decor in the common areas is fantastic. It truly feels like a blast from the past walking through the library, sun room or games room.
Cons: Room amenities (bathroom, TV, furnishings) felt a little dated (not in a good way). The included breakfast was predictably average.
A historic building like the Metropole made for an excellent stay. The knowledgeable concierge was full of local knowledge, suggestions, and experience. Predicting rain on our stay the man at the front desk offered us an umbrella (noticing we didn't have one). Sure enough the rain came and that umbrella came in handy for sure. The only negative experience I had was on my second morning there and alarm sounded at about 7am. It wasn't a fire alarm although it was loud enough to be! It went on for 20 minutes or so and ruined my nights rest. Its a small thing to complain about but there was no explanation or apology by the staff.

quirky old budget hotel

Posted Dec 17, 2016 on Wotif
It was super close to train station, extremely small but cheap room, good enough for 1 person. Katoomba and area is old , ragged , cute , & has a lot of things to do .

Hot, stuffy, noisy. No air cond and because it had been hot day the room was roasting. To open a window meant sharing the blare of TVs from the othe rooms
