A failing favourite

Posted Feb 18, 2018
Pros: The staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly and helpful and there was a good selection of beers wines and spirits at the bar
Cons: The hotel needs a bit of investment to return it to it's previous high standard.
Location: The location is ideal lots to see and do, the Strathspey Railway out side the hotel, the Spey Way walk, Cairngorm a selection of good golf courses,
Having been regular visitors to this hotel we felt on this occasion it was showing signs of wear and tear. our room was clean and tidy and warm enough but the general feel of the hotel was that it is in need of some updating.. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which we enjoyed, the fried breakfast was good but the eggs benedict didn't make the grade. Not sure if there were staffing issues during the stay but housekeeping turning up at 4pm to make up the room, was a bit too late in the day for me.

Good value

Last minute stay for friends birthday. Rooms basic but good for the price. Ate in the bar and very pleased with the food. Bar staff were lovely. Nice breakfast.

Good location and close to other villages.

Posted Jan 24, 2018
Pros: The staff who served breakfast were lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was very good and a good selection of choices.
Cons: Honouring the terms and conditions on the offer. Shower was not very powerful and made washing hair a challenge!
Location: Plenty to do nearby and lovely walks and outdoor activities. Be aware that many eating places operate reduced hours in January or may be closed.
I booked this hotel with the understanding that I could upgrade my room to a garden room to allow me to bring my dog. Unfortunately when I phoned and tried to arrange this I was informed that I would have to cancel my booking and pay the price of a garden room. As my booking was non-refundable I would have lost all my money . After the fourth attempt of trying to speak to a manager to ask them to honour the small print on the terms and conditions I gave up and despite leaving my phone number nobody called me to discuss the matter. This caused me a lot of hassle to have to make alternative arrangements and forced me to cut my time away short. It is the first time that I've had this problem with any hotel. In every other hotel I've stayed in it has never been an issue and you are charged a supplement for having a dog. For this reason I sadly wouldn't return to the Boat hotel.

Brilliant hotel near the Cairngorms

Posted Jan 24, 2018
Cons: One recommendation would be for the car parks to be cleared of snow in winter, as we struggled to get our car out!
Location: Walking, skiing in the Cairngorms
Our room was extremely reasonable (probably due to the winter stay), so didn't really expect much. However the hotel has the level of comfort / facilities of somewhere much more expensive. The whole building is well decorated and we had an excellent cooked breakfast and dinner at the bar. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, allowing us to make a late arrival on the first night. Overall it was a great stay and very convenient for accessing the Cairngorms national park.

Weekend Getaway

Posted Nov 12, 2017 on Hotels
We've stayed here regularly for the last few years. It's a great wee hotel in a beautiful area. The welcome this time wasn't as warm as before, and we didn't find out that Steak Night was off until we tried to order. It's still a lovely hotel and we will be back, it's just needs to be a bit more personal like it used to be.

Magda and her staff looked after us unbelievabley well from the minute we arrived. Food is outstanding along with some of the local characters turned our trip to an annual event... If you visit the fresh cocktails are a must. See you next year Iain and John
