This was a beautiful and relaxing place to get away for a weekend! I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to visit Borobudur, which you can actually see from your patio. The staff is very attentive, the food was great, and there are many excursions they can help you to book. As for me, I didn't go anywhere the whole weekend and loved every minute!

What a wonderful Javanese Surprise!
This secluded resort where you can truly rest without crowds surrounding you is a gem. While the suites do show ( just a tiny bit) some wear and tear, the overall comfort was just great. Rooms and bathroom are big, and one sleeps well. No TV and that was perfect. What makes this resort truly exceptional is the quality of the service. All staff from house keeping, reception, restaurant, drivers are absolutely dedicated to make to stay a great one. Always smiling, prompt at assisting you, handling all your excursions booking without a single hitch and without its having to remind them about any of our requests. Last bit not least, their restaurant “Taste Java” offers a great selection of local food (99.9% of the menu is made of Javanese dishes, including may ways to prepare bananas…). One has to dig into the menu and try as many things as possible as the quality is top notch, and very healthy. Of note for those wondering why the restaurant is not very busy: don’t get fooled….Most guests are staying in villas that have dining rooms, where the food would be served. The suites guests would be the ones eating at the restaurant while enjoying a beautiful scenery. Bottom line, we enjoyed a hassle and problem free week in Borobudur Villa and highly recommend them.

Service by staff is excellent. Everything is on time and on the dot. One of the cleanest private pool I've seen Food is good. One of the pricest hotel around the area though.

Fantastic Borobudur experience
Amazing place on a hill overlooking the Borobudur temple, which is floodlit for a period every night and absolutely spectacular! We stayed at Villa M and our friends in Villa K and both seem to be the best villas on offer and close to each other. Other villas can be a steep walk up or down the mountain so beware if travelling with others. They drive you between places and room service is great although the food options are mostly fried ..... disappointing. Breakfast was great (both soups are good and lovely fruit plate). Unfortunately, no baths but the western bathrooms are spacious and clean with a Java ambience. Expensive but well worth it in our view.

I’m giving this a long review because, while I give it 5 stars, travelers should know what they are getting into. The rooms are traditionally Javanese rooms. This means fretted wood panels that are open to the outside, a sliding wood latch to lock the door, no minibar, fridge, microwave, or TV. It is a house like a fairly wealthy Javanese family would live in. The bathroom is an open tile floored room with a spray handle for washing up. The water was hot. Food at the resort was very good traditional Javanese. Food in this area is hotter than other locations in Java. If you desire additional privacy ask for a room on the end so people don’t pass by your room. The staff speaks good English. It was perfect for my taste but if you want a more standard western style room this may not meet your expectations.

Overall the property is good. The staff really cares for the guest and is available on moments notice. You can plan all your excursions while there and they are pretty flexible about any changes you want to make. They have good food options, and the birthday cake they made for my wife’s birthday was amazing. In short, great place to wind down, relax and get pampered. Only reason for not rating it 5star is that this is in middle of a jungle and naturally there are bugs to be expected. But there were too many ants, and we had to change rooms on the last day as the room had lot of ants even though we were careful about food in the room. Also there was a house lizard falling on the dining table from the ceiling. But even with the bug experiences, I will highly recommend staying here if you do not mind bugs, they are harmless ones. And thank you to the hotel staff !!

Not peak season so it seemed they were more concerned with maintenance and training than they were with the guests. could also stand a good fumigation for bugs as we had a spider in our room that had impressive size.

Loved the views, and the staff was so incredible! Would like to recommend one of the villas at the very top needs a kettle with teas/coffee. The fridge never got cold, and there was an outlet that didn’t work. But all in all, it’s a magnificent place!

Small quiet and relaxing hotel
The hotel is very comfortable. If you are looking for time away from the noises of the city, this is a good place. The service is excellent and the staff goes to great lengths to make you feel comfortable. The food is good as well, although they can take a while to bring it to the table, which was not a big problem for us since we were in no hurry. They also helped us organize a short trip to the temple, which was one of the highlights.

Serene stay on the hillsides of Borobudur
Extraordinary location, with a breathtaking view of the Borobudur valley and volcanoes. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Food was excellent and the staff very helpful. They organised many activities, such as the visit of the Borobudur temple and a bike ride in the countryside. We also enjoyed resting at the pool, which is well designed and quiet.

Looks wonderful on paper but I just could not get comfortable in this hotel. One of the strangest hotel stays I've ever experienced. Lovely setting, terrific staff but absolutely no place to just feel physically comfortable in the place. Oh yes....and the satellite tv didn't work while we were there so couldn't watch the World Cup game. ;-( I realize that it's a difficult place to put up and manage a 5-star hotel but at the price we paid it needs some work. It felt more like a village live in experience than a 5-star resort.

Beautiful hotel from every angle.
We got here on a rainy night and had a delicious dinner and made our plans for the next day. The real treat was seeing the view from the hotel when we got up the next day. I’d say the only thing better than the views were the staff. We had everything we wanted and needed without feeling like we were being looked after too closely. I can’t imagine there is a better palce to stay than here.

Room with a view.
The staff were friendly and service was great. However for what we paid, I would have expected more up-to-date facilities and better landscaping. Although the hotel has a direct view of Borobudur which was priceless.

With added benefit of modern plumbing, excellent aircon and a pool. Amazing view of the plain with the Borobudur temple straight ahead, and volcano in the distance. You can't get better than this!

Traditional Indonesian boutique
Fantastic place to stay. Have seen some reviews pointing out that it isn't the same as a "typical" western luxury hotel, but that is not what this place is about so if your expectations are for a hotel with that Indonesian charm, this is where you should consider staying. The view is amazing and if you've done your research, then you will already know - it is nestled in the hills on the edge of the forest overlooking the valley. The rooms are special, as is the decor of the hotel. Traditional Indonesian carvings are everywhere and local art and whatnot are scattered all around the hotel. The staff are super friendly and can't do enough to help you - they are also chatty too and have good grasp of English. We stayed because we wanted to see Borobudur temple at dawn and this hotel is really close. The guide they hired was first rate. He worked with UNESCO over the restorations and has studied with the Buddhist Monks. So he knew his stuff. Also he knew all about the best photo angles at dawn. The food menu is Indonesian and there was little in the way of western food. The food is fantastic and you have to order in advance because they source the food locally and prepare it an hour before service. Breakfast is good with mainly western options. There is a nice little coffee and refreshment area in the communal area which is open and over looks the valley. Nature often finds its way into these parts which is nice. The pool is nice too and overlooks the valley.

A place to make memories.
The Villa was amazing. It exceeded expectations. Visiting nearby Borobudur was a huge highlight. Only downside was the auditory competition between the village mosques in the valley below us. At times it was quite overwhelming. Overall we loved Villa Borobudur. The staff went out of their way to make our stay very memorable.

Magical Java: treated like royalty!
Villa B. is just 15 minutes from the eponymous ancient site, and there are many others in exploring distance. We loved the private Villa Dipanegoro and its private pool, to which we were upgraded from a standard room in the main building. Incredibly roomy, 24 hour service, and excellent concierge assistance for all kinds of excursions. The welcome packages are extremely generous, including airport transfers and all food cooked to order (and including beer and beverages like fresh juice, coconut, and traditional jamu, a Javanese healing drink), as well as a tour of Borobudur (extra $25 charge for the sunrise visit, well worth it!). The staff are friendly and solicitous, they do everything to make you feel well taken care of. The drivers are also well trained and knowledgeable, and even help with local shopping and excursions (local market at Borobudur, batik shopping in Yogyakarta!). Be aware that the hotel is peaceful with gorgeous views and fascinating Javanese contemporary and traditional arts (including musical performances), but at least 2 hours from Yogyakarta airport and downtown.

Stunning views
We loved the staff, the room, the peace and the views...did we mention the view? It was easy to spend half a day doing the temple or a tour, such as a bicycle ride, and then relax in the peace and quiet for the other half of the day. We were in one of the top rooms which was more secluded even if you do have to climb a lot of stairs. Anyone with difficulty climbing would need to request a lower room.

A little slice of paradise
This was a fairly new resort – open for about two years at the time – and driving directions were not particularly clear. My cab driver got me to within 3km of the resort, at which stage, I had to call them and have my cab driver give them our location. They then sent out a vehicle to come and collect me! Arriving at Villa Borobudur was a pleasant surprise. As I drove up, their staff lined up on either side of the vehicle to welcome me. I was partly embarrassed (I’m not one for being the centre of attention) and partly felt a bit like royalty. I was handed a cool towel to wipe myself down, and led to my room. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. The suite was constructed entirely of timber and tastefully decorated in traditional Javanese decor. The resort also had an outdoor pool, and two outdoor living and dining areas that overlooked the valley. The staff is professional and courteous, and are attuned to the needs of a variety of travellers. They understood that as a photographer, I would want transport to locations, but would probably not need a guide so that I could proceed at my own pace. They also recognised that I would need access to locations at odd times (after sunset, and before sunrise), and catered to by requests even at 3:45am in the morning to have a vehicle ready for me to catch first light. A word of advice if you're planning to stay here - call them ahead and have them send a car to the airport to collect you. It's worth it!

Fantastic stay in Villa Borobudur.
Stayed in Villa Diponegoro in mid July. The first time when we saw the villa, we were awestruck by the aesthetics of it. It had a fascinating view of the valley and also Borobudur Temple. My 15 month old kid was just elated in the big villa, as he had so much space to run around. From the first instance, which was the lunch served on our arrival, we could sense the utmost caring nature of the staff. We stayed for 2 nights and each meal was good, local cuisine. The staff was kind enough to even cook outside of the menu from my kid. Every aspect of the stay was well taken care of, even one of the lady staff accompanied us for an afternoon shopping session. The only thing lacking was a bit of privacy...need to pull the blinds, which were quite a few. But that is only a minor thing, which I believe can be managed by the Hotel. To sum it all, the all inclusive package is really worth every penny. A nice place to stay and relax.

Hidden Gem
Villa Borobudur is completely underrated. The all inclusive rates include limousine airport transfer, all meals cooked to order, limousine transport to Borobudur (for the stunning sunrise or sunset tours). We were more than pleasantly surprised at all the hidden extras that were included, and stunned by the beauty of the view of Borobudur and the valley in front of our room. We enjoyed great privacy and service from the staff of Villa Borobudur, and do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone considering a visit to Borobudur, especially if you are looking for a romantic getaway.

Supurb location to visit the temple at Borobudur. The rooms are on a steep hill side and lots of steps to reach them but once up, there is a lovely view of jungle and the plain below from your own verandah. The hotel has a new 4 wheel drive, very comfortable vehicle with an excellent driver, to take you around and to pick up and drop off at the airport. The rooms are local style with carved timber frames and interiors and shutters on the windows. As the villa is high up its cool at night.There are mosquito nets on the beds and the staff sprayed the rooms in the evening but insects were not a problem during our visit. Local food was served at each meal. There was a choice and everything we had was delicious. Tea, coffee and snacks were on offer at any time. The staff were attentive, unobtrusive and delightful. The dining area is open again in local style with carved timber, tiled floors and comfortable cane furniture. We had a very enjoyable and restful three day break.

良かった点 ・ボロブドゥールを含む眺望が抜群 ・静かで開放的 ・スタッフの対応がとても良い 悪かった点 ・シャワーの水圧が弱い(お湯はしっかり温かい) 山の中腹ですが虫も多くなく、網戸がないのに、不思議なくらい快適でした。全体的に家族向けな雰囲気のホテルではありませんが、スタッフのホスピタリティも良く、子連れ(7,5歳)でも快適に過ごせました。 ジョグジャカルタまで車で1時間くらいかかりますが、ボロブドゥールへは10分くらいですぐに行けます。

prachtig hotel
je moet even geduld hebben voor dat je er bent het ligt boven op een steile helling maar het uitzicht en de kamer zijn het allemaal waard en dan ben je ook nog eens maar 15 minuten van de borobudur vandaan vraag of ze je de VIP ingang geven en je hoeft de drukte niet in perfect geregeld door hotelchauffeur

房間內收不到網絡，戶外蚊子很多，整個Villa 只有游泳池，沒有其它活動設施。交通都要靠Villa 接送（還要收費），所以這裡除了享受寧靜外；真的沒有什麼可期待的。

Awesome hotel in lovely setting
My wife and I recently stayed at Villa Borobudur for 3 nights. It was a wonderful experience that we won't soon forget. We were upgraded to the Merababu villa (from the Merapi Jungle Room) - and oh, what an upgrade(!): we had our own living room, pool and choice of 3 bedrooms, all overlooking the valley below, featuring mountains in the distance. At different times of the day, the calls to prayer from the various nearby mosques would echo throughout the valley, while, at other times, you could sit with a cold beer or juice and listen to the afternoon rain sweep across the landscape. It was a truly magical setting. The dedicated staff were top notch - from the cooks, wait staff and porters. Everyone was super polite, friendly and willing to do whatever was necessary to help. The driver we had for our day trips was outstanding, knowledgeable, and went well beyond the call of duty in helping out in our hike up to the Candi Sologriyo. The Indonesian food was great, and the few times we had some "off menu" special requests, they did their best to accommodate. A couple additional points to keep in mind: we were picked up at the Yogyakarta airport by the hotel and would definitely recommend arranging a ride - it is a bit a tricky to find and located in hilly terrain. Second, while I have a mobility impairment, making navigating the grounds a bit tricky, the staff went out of their way to help. So don't let the stairs be a deterrent. A great experience all around!
