Nice hotel it’s quite old and historic but rooms were clean and had everything you need very central only downfall was couldn’t close window properly and howled all night but didn’t spoil my stay staff were lovely parking is right on the property and safe would stay again

The property is a good location for access to the centre of town and for the purpose we chose it. The arrival is very poor! We followed the sat nav instructions but there was no signage at the back of the hotel to tell you that you had arrived at their parking area. We parked in a car park and paid for an hour before going into the hotel to check in. We were told to park the car behind the hotel and so I did just that but the car park is not organised in any way, no signage, just an area where you park where you want. Very poor. Our room was on 1st floor and we used the staircase to access it. The staircase carpet was quite dirty and everything looked quite shabby and old fashioned. Our room had a strange unpleasant smell and the carpet was not clean but very old and had lots of missing bits in the corners and edges. the cupboard was full of hangers and we had to remove most of them in order to hang our clothes. Why would you leave so many loose hangers in a small cupboard? There appeared to be a light above the hand basin but the light did not work. The toilet seat was very loose and simply needed tightening up. The lighting is poor, the table lamps by the beds are not suitable and don't give sufficient light for reading. Fortunately the bed linen seemed clean as did the towels. breakfast was ok but £20 for 2 pax was a bit steep for what was on offer. I would not return here or recommend the place.

The property is very tired and harks back to former days of glory. Situated on Botchergate unfortunately the area is the only part of Carlisle boasting night life. Be prepared for late clubbing noise from the neighbours.

The County hotel looked very neat and tidy with its fresh decorating. There is free parking at the rear of the hotel. The staff were very professional, helpful and friendly. The room was a good size, clean and with comfortable beds. The shower mixer in the en-suite really needs updating to Thermostatic control for safety and the window didn’t reduce the noise from the street and the club across the road. Overall good value for the money.

positive: close to train station, tea coffee provided, clean bedding and two pillows per bed, relatively quick checkin.. negatives: worn old hotel, 1 key for a twin room, stained and worn carpets, including a used condom under the bed. noisy due to nightlife in area till early hours, low water pressure and cold room with limited hot water. ok for one night but not a long stay as a low quality option.

First room was dirty, smelled of smoke and body odour, and the carpet was filthy Moved to another which was only slightly better but I didn’t risk taking a shower (only stayed one night). Breakfast was poor - scrambled egg was swimming in water, hash browns were soggy and undercooked. The location of this hotel was good, but it meant it was very noisy (needs double/secondary glazing) but overall the hotel is dated, tired and needs a complete refresh.

The room and the decor was outdated. The room was at the back of the hotel and at the side so the window overlooked an alley way. It made it feel dark and dingy. The lights in the room were not bright enough. I stayed in a single room so next time I would make sure I stayed in a double. The bed was comfortable and I was able to sleep.

The location for the hotel was great as it was a 1 minute walk from the train station, right on botchergate for dining and pubs etc. The hotel was poor, the condition was terrible. We had a broken bath, dated and dirty decor, the carpets throughout the hotel were dirty, the bathroom was dirty, broken and dated. Granted it's on the main strip for pubs and bars but the windows didn't hold back much noise so was very noisy all night. Maybe if you stayed at the back of the hotel it would be quiet. I wouldn't stay here again. The check-in was very quick and not very welcoming or friendly, it seemed like they wanted to deal with us and get us out the way.

The hotel was basic, when entering the receptionist was unfriendly, we didnt know how to get car to car park and she pointed at the cctv monitor saying thats the car park, The room was good size and was clean looking but there was alot of dust on the lifht above dressing table it was almost black and top of warsrobe was also very dusty. The bathroom was something from the 70s, and needs a total over hall, The breakfast was an unorganised mess we booked for 9am turned up and was expected to find a table ourselves which also needed cleared before we used it. Trying to get breakfast was just so annoying as there was no space to move due to size of room lack of options and the coffee had ran out but no staff around to help . We gave up and went out for breakfast instead.

Great location, decent value hotel
Lots of plus points for this old style hotel - friendly staff, large rooms, clean, great location, nice buffet breakfast and decent value to stay here. The rooms could do with a bit of updating and the carpets refreshed. The most disappointing part of our stay was that it was too noisy to sleep well, due to outside noise and not being able to close the windows.

Great location, really nice lady on reception but sorry guyz your Internet is just pants, we always need our cellphones and internet but i gave up on the hotel Internet and just used my mobile date, that is the one thing which lets you down if not its a lovely hotel in a great location

Cheap - but there is better for your money
Not great value, even for under £70. Poor condition, rooms are like a rat run to find up, down, down, up stairs. This didn’t include breakfast, and for what we paid for was hot of great quality.
