Nice hotel with decent rooms and good restaurant. Its a family run hotel so they care about their customers. Would recommend if staying in or around Brechin.

A little confusing over price of breakfast as listed as 8.95 and also states that in guest information in room but on the day was charged over 12.00. Not good.

This is a great place and I have stayed here before. The reason for not giving it 5 stars across the board is the mattress in my room was old and bumpy. If the bed would have been more comfortable I would have given 5 stars on every level.

Had a lovely stay check in was easy lovely room big and clean the owners couldn't be more helpful and friendly never been in a hotel that made cheese toastie at 12.30am for us when they heard us say we were peckish will definitely be back

Lovely family run hotel, current owners took over 12 months ago. Some communal areas looked tired but the room and facilities within were really good. Owners were attentive. They have just changed their menu and offer excellent variety of evening meals, worth booking a table during your stay.

The staff/owners could not have been nicer or more helpful and I had a very comfortable and clean room. Overall the property is a little tired but if you want a pleasant inexpensive hotel with a bit of character for a night I would rate it pretty well.

Food and service was very good. Room a little disappointing, heating wasn't switched on so room was rather cold on arrival at 18:30 plus TV remote didn't work. Excellent water pressure in the shower though!

I stayed at the Northern Hotel a few years ago , there has been a change of management since then , nothing has changed , still the same high standard and comfort .

Clean place
We had a late check in and had to call for somebody to let us in. A little inconvenient when you do not have a GB phone. Place was clean but as most of the time the pillows are like rocks. Staff was friendly and got us another towel as there was only one in the room for 2 guests. Our room faced the street and it got busy in the morning. All in all it was alright for a short stay.

One night stop in Brechin
Needed a one night stay ahead of an appointment in the area the next day and The Northern fitted the bill. Very friendly welcome and check in, good service throughout (special mention for Rachel who looked after us really well for our evening meal and breakfast). Both rooms we had were spacious, clean and comfortable, while both faced onto the main road they were quiet and we had a good nights sleep. Nice breakfast and easy check out.

Great little hotel
The northern is a lovely hotel, nicely kept and looked after. The couple who own it are lovely and all the staff are really helpful. The food is of a good standard too, well presented and served. Nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will stay again when next in the area.

Poor service, not clean and building needs work
The hotel is run down and understaffed. It took a long time just to check in as nobody was manning the reception. There was very loud music playing until 1am that was easily audible in the rooms. The room was dusty, smelled damp, had mould in the showers. The breakfast was not high quality and there was only 1 staff member to serve and clean up after all of the guests. At £127 this is a rip off.

Dear guest, Thanks very much for your review. Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us.we are only very small hotel and don t need full time receptionist having few rooms a day. Our staff are multitasking and do other jobs as well. Again having 5 people for breakfast we cannot deploy more people for serving.One was always sufficient. With regards of music playing until 1am it is only weekends as we do have pub attached to the hotel and pub usually gets busy and loud over the weekend. I can only apologize for that. With regards of cleaning i will talk to my housekeeping and i can assure if you will come back in the future we will make sure we will do everything we can to make your stay pleasant.

Great location in the centre of Brechin. Friendly staff and delightful decor make for a cracking place to stay. Our only negative was that the shower sprayed out onto the bathroom floor

A lovely place to stay . Excellent staff and very good food. The reception area and lounge is so cozy with a fireplace and coal fire, Rooms are comfortable with Coffee or tea making facilities. Excellent shower. A very old traditional hotel that makes you feel good.

Parking facilities are awful. Not enough parking spaces on the car park or outside. The amount of staff they had on at one time were unable to cope with the guests. There would be one person trying to run the bar and the reception and were waiting to see someone at reception a number of times. The rooms were fair for the price and had the utilities you would expect to find and was clean to a fair standard. There were two bars in the actual hotel (connected to a bar, shared car park) but one did not accept card and would only allow you to charge drinks to your room if you paid on arrival. The girls and the gentlemen who worked in the restaurant and desk were nice and helpful, however one gentlemen who I assume was a manager because he was not in uniform was quite rude.
