We did not get to stay in the hotel. We showed up only to find out that the hotel had been overbooked by about 5 rooms, and there were others waiting at reception for a solution. The night manager told us that he tried calling all the hotels in Bristol and nobody picked up their phone.
I said if I get a different hotel sorted, will you pay for it? He said of course, you'd be doing me a favour. Literally the first hotel I called was happy to accommodate us, but the manager said he didn't have the authority to pay for the other hotel directly, and to email for a refund the next day.
More than 2 weeks later I am still waiting for a response to my email, and my 2 phone calls didn't help either. The Doubletree didn't really have a solution on the night, didn't offer us a drink, didn't even seem very apologetic. The other hotel we ended up staying at was way more empathetic and gave us 4 free cocktails, even though our problem had nothing to do with them.
