Gloomy

Posted Feb 20, 2017
Pros: Clean and fairly central
Cons: Get some lights, redecorate, make sure the sockets in rooms work, get some decent pillows.
Location: Short walk to main square, nice to just wander around town.
Check in was ok, left to find our own rooms. Public areas typical grand old Bruges style. We had two rooms Nos 1 & 3, canal views. I've never stayed anywhere so gloomy, miserable and depressing, although the rooms were clean and had plenty of hot water. The decor was all dark green and cream, mostly the green, it was like a clean version of Miss Havershams house in Great Expectations. Large high ceilinged room with minimal lighting, a dozen candles would have been brighter. The room was like an oven so we had to open the windows at night which meant listening to the traffic thundering over the cobblestones most of the night, couldn't sleep anyway, the pillows were horrendous, ended up trying to sleep without one. Staff were helpful when asked for something. We had all we needed but didn't stay in our rooms a minute longer than we had to.

Worst room (no 8) I've ever stayed in.

Posted Feb 7, 2017
Our room was titled "Charming room with garden view" but this was clearly secret password for "Ground floor shoebox with views of front courtyard". Room 8 is groundfloor opposite reception and with poor room insulation we could hear every whispered conversation and click of high heels from reception and surrounding area. A double bed just fitted in room 8 with only just enough space to walk round it. Dated & worn tardy room 8 badly in need of some TLC and refurbishment. Bedroom & bathroom door & floor all creaked. Well appointed bathroom but still so tiny it had safety implications of touching the wall towel rail when hot. Rest of hotel looked ok but we've been left with horrible memories of a room-from-hell.

great stay overlooking canal.

Posted Dec 1, 2016
Pros: As above
Cons: Update the bath and shower - not slick enough although there was plenty of very hot water and the pressure was excellent.
Location: As above.
Very cosy, independent feel to the hotel. Quite bijoux. Very helpful and polite staff and great breakfast. The room was quite grand and very clean with a picturesque view overlooking the canal. The hotel is located in a very nice suburb just minutes from the medieval centre and the hotel dates back to that time also so it's steeped in history which we could feel in our stay of just one night (would like to have stayed longer). Deserving of its 4 stars we would stay again.

Great location, elegant, timeless. Understaffed.

Pros: Charming atmosphere. Great location.
Loved everything except front desk. Someone was being trained and the Trainor was only desk staff. Also no porter for luggage was major handicap.

Historical and well maintained hotel on the canal

Posted Nov 9, 2016
Pros: Where to begin. This hotel was beautiful and well preserved and maintained with modern updates. The decor of the room was luxurious, rich in history. The location was perfect for walking day or night around Bruges. We took a cab both ways to/from the train station and did not have a problem. Breakfast included champagne, and it was wonderful sitting by the window enjoying breakfast and looking out onto the canal. Bruges is an amazing medieval city. I will come back again!
Cons: The staircase going up in the hotel was a bit narrow and creaked going up. I didn't mind because you could tell that it was maintained well and preserved with the rest of the hotel.
Location: Chocolate shops, cafes, waffles for a mid afternoon snack, Michelangelo's Madonna and Child, beautiful canals, walking to the top of the Belfry.

Beautiful hotel on the edge of the canal

Posted Oct 29, 2016
Only a short stroll from the Markt this is a lovely hotel with lots of character. We had a comfort double overlooking the canal but the room we had was huge with lovely high ceilings. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great Bruges Location

Posted Oct 12, 2016
Pros: Convenient location in center city. The courtyard in the hotel was very pleasant. Helpful staff. Nicely maintained. Large, comfortable room and bath.
Cons: The breakfast was expensive so we opted for nearby restaurants.
Location: Just walking the city is a treat with the architecture and the canals. Belgian beer tasting venues abound. Churches, museums, and shops aplenty .
The hotel is an older building with great character and is well-maintained. It borders on a canal. The courtyard is quiet and very pleasant. There is also a patio in the front of the hotel. The staff was helpful on several occasions, which facilitated our activities. Their English was quite sufficient. The room was a very comfortable size with air conditioning and windows to the courtyard. The bathroom was updated and had wash cloths. The location is excellent for walking to the sites within the city center. It is a few doors from a small plaza with a few restaurants and a convenience store. The walk to Market Square is very short - 5 min. Plenty of restaurants, shops, and places of interest in the square and the surrounding area. We did not have a car so we cannot comment on parking. It did not appear to be good. However, it is a reasonably priced taxi ride from the train station. Bring good walking shoes for cobblestone streets and sidewalks. Overall, it contributed greatly to our stay in that wonderful city.

Dear valued guest, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback on Expedia. We were pleased to read that you had a comfortable stay with us and that you especially appreciated the location and style of the hotel along with the friendliness of our hotel staff. We are glad that you have enjoyed the visit to our city so much and that you are able to give such nice tips to our future guests. As you mentioned, the hotel has a secured underground parking garage which is located 400m from the hotel. This garage comes at a cost of € 22/day. Nevertheless, there are alternative options to park near the hotel as well. We hope that we will be able to spoil you with our various breakfast buffet when you visit us next time. It is the perfect way to start a great day full of impressions and discoveries in this beautiful city. Warm regards, Delphine
