Elegant hotel in central Brussels area

Posted Jul 21, 2016
Pros: Central, clean, elegant.
Cons: Room was quite warm. Breakfast is extortionate.
Location: Great location, just a stroll to the European Parliament.
I got a great deal from Expedia, probably because we are into the summer holiday period. The Stanhope is comfortable, clean, elegant and close the European Parliament. But I wouldn't pay the usual costs to stay there, it is not that great.

Tucked away

Posted Jul 12, 2016 on Hotels
Being one block from the main road, the hotel was tucked away and pleasingly quiet, but still connected. Room/bathroom not huge but beautifully appointed. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast seemed expensive, but there are good cafes in the neighbourhood as an alternative.

Will stay again

Posted Jun 5, 2016 on Hotels
Good service, decent price, and a hotel with personality, unlike normsl bland business hotels. Will stay again on a business trip to Brussels.

A classic hotel with quirks

Posted Apr 12, 2016
Pros: Terrific breakfasts and the Brighton Restaurant is wonderful for an evening romantic treat.
Cons: There are AWFUL fluorescent green/crimson-covered faux antique chairs in the lobby. No no no -paintings, marble and antique Iranian rugs - and those!
Location: Walkable to either the lower town and the upper European district
A terrific three-day break in a wonderful room. The hotel is classic but has some quirks. My personal favourite was having breakfast and coffee in the inner courtyard under the Magnolia trees. A little sun trap. Staff are long-term employees and you can see they have a connection to the hotel... It was the first Five-star Hotel in Brussels and remains somewhere to relax and enjoy your time in Brussels.

Nice, but not for me.

Posted Mar 22, 2016 on Hotels
The location of the hotel was ideal for European government agency and Parliament meetings, all which were within 10 minute walking distance. The hotel had a very European charm. Doesn't look like much from the outside - there is no doorman and it's on a side street, but after walking in the corridor to the lobby, the hotel opens up and has a courtyard off the main lobby. The rooms were very clean and ok size for Europe, which tends towards the smaller side. The service was very friendly, although, I did have to wait over 30 minutes for them to deliver an iron and ironing board. I am used to them being in the room, so that was a negative. The temperature control did not work properly and the room was VERY warm. Also, I reserved a king sized bed, but the bed was actually a king frame with two separate twins put together. As I rolled over, the mattresses kept sliding apart. I am 6 foot 2 and 250 pounds and a twin sized bed is just exceptionally uncomfortable, especially when you're paying for a king. Also, there was only one outlet near the desk, so you had to either use it for your laptop and sit in the dark, or use it for the desk lamp and not use the desk when working. Totally useless. Overall, this was a charming hotel, perhaps good for a leisure visit and if you're not an above average sized person, but not very fit for business.

Rooms too hot

Posted Feb 14, 2016 on Orbitz
Cons: Enable the thermostat to be set by the guest
Location: The hotel is in a good location, near to shopping, business and restaurants
Although there was a thermostat, it does not control the room temperature so I found the rooms too hot to my liking. The hot water did not work on one of the days of my stay. I would have liked to have free coffee in the rooms or in the lobby. Coffee was expensive.

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for your review. Your feedback concerning the thermostat has been transferred to our technical manager, as each room should be able to manage there own temperature. Please note that as from this week all rooms have Nespresso machines & boilers available free of charge. I'm also happy reading you appreciate our superb location, & so hope to welcome you again soon. Michael VDB Front Office Manager Stanhope Hotel

Great service but an expensive hotel.

Posted Jan 23, 2016 on Hotels
The staff very kindly provided me with a kettle in my room. The lack of air conditioning was not great, particularly on the first evening when I arrived late and my room was excessively hot. I could not leave the windows open all night as there was too much noise coming from the street. The lighting in the room and bathroom was not very bright and no shower cap was provided.

Dear guest, First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time writing your stay's feedback. It's always nice reading you enjoyed our staff service. Note that as from last month a kettle, Nespresso machine, as well as a full range of Molton Brown VIP amenities are available in each of our rooms. Concerning the air conditioning, I would certainly like to apologize for the inconvenience. Note a manager on duty is always available to help you, so that a technical error can be solved. Meanwhile I wish you a lovely day, and hope to see you again soon. Michael VDB, Front Office Manager

No tea making facility in room, but amazing breakfast - probably best choice I have seen in Brussels thus far.
