I never stayed over a pub before so don't have anything to compare it with. Worth a try if you're tired of formal hotels. When you arrive, you report to the bar for check in, amongst the patrons who seem to be mostly local OAPs + a few tradespeople travelling on business. Nice friendly host and staff.
No local amenities on the doorstep, but the pub serves very good food in a comfortable atmosphere on site. I had a lovely Thai red curry for dinner and fab full English breakfast in the morning, with quality sausage which is my benchmark for breakfast quality.
Room 4 is quirky but large & comfortable, with a large bed, small TV, tea/coffee/biscuits, wardrobe, bedside tables & lamps + table & chairs. Being an old building, you can hear thuds when people are walking in other rooms, and a murmur from the pub downstairs. It isn't a rowdy pub so noise wasn't a problem. It was quiet enough circa 10:30 and I slept very well.
The private bathroom is equipped with full bath & shower over, toiletries, towels and bath mat. It was clean enough, but personally I'd give the tiled walls, taps and sink a good scrub with a bathroom foam cleaner to remove the dull marks and make them shiny. The decor could do with sprucing up (ripped carpet on the first step into the room, tired carpet and bathroom vinyl, cracked corner in the bath panel etc.) These are small details and I didn't mind but someone more demanding might.
Overall a pleasant 1 night stay and I'd go there again.
