Stayed for one night only and really enjoyed our stay. Room & bathroom was clean, nicely decorated, served good food and the breakfast was excellent! Overall a pleasant stay and will definitely revisit if in the area again.

The bed was awful, when my husband turned over it was like being bounced off a lilo in a pool! The towels, tiny shower and crockery didn't look very clean. Once the beer garden emptied at 11pm it was nice and quiet overnight, until noisy people/staff in the next room from 7am!

Great pub, food, beer and staff all excellent
Food was good, beer was good, staff very helpful. Unfortunately I hate woodchip and there was quite a bit in the room but it’s an old building and so it’s probably the right stuff to use.

Room and Service Good But....
Room and service was good. Evening meal was good but expensive but for the price would have expected more than a bowl of rice and bowl of curry, watch out as well for the 10% service charge. Breakfast was disappointing, American pancakes with blueberries, bacon and maple syrup, the pancakes were rock hard.

Good (as long as you're thin!)
Good friendly service; wholesome; quiet location; convenient parking. Only downside was the actual shower: water temperature varied unpredictably, it was rather cramped, and - the usual problem - one of the doors kept coming off its runners

Great food
The large room we had was gorgeous, a shame about the cleanliness though - with sticky and stained bedside tables and thick dust on all skirting boards and beams. The food was excellent - although the older gentleman was grumpy and off-putting as we had our dog with us (which they knew about in advance). All other staff were fantastic though. The pub is in a wonderful location on the common too.

Apart from a slight hitch at check-in which was very quickly resolved I found the Potter's Arms a very nice place to stay. The staff were helpful and friendly and all the customers in the bar (to which I am not used to) were also friendly and helpful to me, a quite old person. It is unlikely that I will be in that area again but if I ever were I would not hesitate to stay at The Potters Arms. A very nice stay for what, for me, was a sad occasion to attend a funeral.

Large room & bathroom, over friendly pub.
I never stayed over a pub before so don't have anything to compare it with. Worth a try if you're tired of formal hotels. When you arrive, you report to the bar for check in, amongst the patrons who seem to be mostly local OAPs + a few tradespeople travelling on business. Nice friendly host and staff. No local amenities on the doorstep, but the pub serves very good food in a comfortable atmosphere on site. I had a lovely Thai red curry for dinner and fab full English breakfast in the morning, with quality sausage which is my benchmark for breakfast quality. Room 4 is quirky but large & comfortable, with a large bed, small TV, tea/coffee/biscuits, wardrobe, bedside tables & lamps + table & chairs. Being an old building, you can hear thuds when people are walking in other rooms, and a murmur from the pub downstairs. It isn't a rowdy pub so noise wasn't a problem. It was quiet enough circa 10:30 and I slept very well. The private bathroom is equipped with full bath & shower over, toiletries, towels and bath mat. It was clean enough, but personally I'd give the tiled walls, taps and sink a good scrub with a bathroom foam cleaner to remove the dull marks and make them shiny. The decor could do with sprucing up (ripped carpet on the first step into the room, tired carpet and bathroom vinyl, cracked corner in the bath panel etc.) These are small details and I didn't mind but someone more demanding might. Overall a pleasant 1 night stay and I'd go there again.

Initially had trouble finding the place in the pitch dark. but once found the place was full of life the staff were very friendly, food was good. All together a good couple of nights spent there. There were somethings that really needed attention in the room. The standard lamp had a dead bulb. The bedside lamp shades needed a vacuum! The toilet needed a good scrub under the rim (I could see it from lying in bed) not good! No room in the shower room to put anything. No pole to open the louvre window above the shower. Tiny teacups!!!

Lovely pub with great accommodation
Sadly we were in the area to attend a funeral in the nearby Chilterns rematorium. Thanks to our satnav playing up, getting to the Potters Arms was very stressful but as soon as we walked in we were made very welcome. The place has a lovely ambiance and because we were there in the run up to Christmas is looked even more cosy and welcoming and the decorations were done extremely tastefully. The sandwiches we ordered before setting off to the service were delicious and we felt very much as if we were home from home. Arriving back after the service we went to our room which was charming. A lovely view out over the common. In the summer this must be fabulous. We had booked a table for dinner and fell into a great conversation with a fellow guest when we had a pre dinner glass of wine in front of the blazing fire. The dining room was a lovely space and the meal was very good. Very comfortable bed dressed with pretty white linen. It must be said that the ensuite was tiny but it did work very well. Down to breakfast, meeting up with the friend we had made the evening before. I asked for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon - the lovely lady serving was unsure. I needn't have worried, it arrived about seven minutes later and was absolutely scrummy. The whole experience was great. I would recommend it.

A lovely traditional English Pub with rooms. We travelled from out of town to attend a birthday party nearby. The pub had a lovely ambience, the rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, our basic needs were met. Breakfast was excellent. Richard the owner/manager exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Great location & people...shame about the rooms
Lovely location and great staff let down by a very VERY tired room. Needs some money spent on it to justify the £95 per night cost (current décor would put it around the £50 mark)

The hotel and staff were lovely but being over the top of a pub that was noisy until 2am was not great (midnight would have been understandable) so although may go there for a meal would not recommend anybody sleeping there, really sorry

Four nights - business
Firstly, my stay was in the middle of the February cold-snaps, so there was plenty of snow, however the room was freezing cold. Windows were old wooden frames, which didn't seal and let a lot of the air through. Aside from that the food was good and beer was better. The pub plays loud music and often has events, so that may disturb you up until about 23:00.

Welcoming owner, nice quaint location.
Really nice pub/b&b. Had lunch upon arrival which was tasty and in a lovely setting. We asked for an iron and ironing board, which were given to us straight away, also a taxi was booked for us when requested, it really feels like nothing is too much trouble. The room was quaint, clean and comfortable although the upstairs decor is just a little tired in areas. Breakfast was delicious and of high quality. Nice experience overall.

Comfortable Stay. Can attend Comedy Nights
Comfortable stay, helpful staff. The Pub conducts comedy nights which are quite entertaining. Good food. 'Check in' in the afternoon could be a problem.
