Our eventual stay at the Eurostar Budapest Central was excellent but we arrived at the Exe Carlton Budapest which was closed - no-one had informed us even though the hotel had informed Hotels.com!! After phoning the company we took a taxi to the Eurostar where we had been re-booked. This is the first time I have used Hotels.com for some time and was not impressed.

Nice experience
This hotel is located on the Buda side of the city, near the Buda castle complex. It's easy to catch the Hop On/Hop Off bus here, or cross the Chain Bridge to the Pest side. The hotel is a little hard to find (the entrance is in an alley). The staff was friendly, the breakfast buffet had eggs, meats, cheeses, yogurt bar, toast/bread, etc so a fair selection of food. The beds were a bit stiff/hard for my liking, but some people enjoy a stiff mattress. The room was clean, house keeping had a predictable routine. Overall a good facility. We'd probably stay on the Pest side of the city next time for locations sake, but we were please.

The hotel was excellent but two things We had a wake up call for 330 am and there was to be a breakfast box there were neither.There was an excellent breakfast and rooms were large and clean

Very nice hotel. Included breakfast was crazy, everything you could ask for in a breakfast. Access was easy to get in but lots of stairs from the other way but they did have a elevator. There's a small pub at the entrance and we thought it might be noisy but it wasn't at all.

The location was good and that was about all. The ceiling fell in room and water soaked the floor. They could not compensate for this either since I paid through expedia. Also the water came out brown in the shower. I would not stay here again.

A nice hotel fairly convenient to sites on the Buda side of the river. The castle, Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Church are just a short walk up the hill. Close to the Szechenyi Bridge to access Pest. The hotel sits on a steep hill, posing challenges maneuvering luggage, but there's elevator access from the lower level up to the lobby. Rooms are sufficient though not large. Beds are ok, but not great, and linens are mediocre. Windows block out street noise at night, but the air conditioning is lousy, and fails to eliminate humidity. The room always smells musty. It also makes it stuffy and unpleasant at night - not a good night's sleep! If there were less street noise windows could be left open, but pubs on the street with major roads and mass transit nearby, create a lot of street noise! The refrigerator with complimentary mineral water is a nice touch, though only replenished occasionally. Bathrooms are nice, and fairly well laid out, though watch out for the short step up. In the middle of the night it is easy to forget it is there. The hand held shower is practical, but impossible to keep the water inside the tub, since the glass enclosure is badly designed. The escaping water runs over the edge onto the carpet could explain some of the musty smell. The breakfast is satisfactory and varied, served in a lovely space, though it varies daily depending on the time and staff. More desirable items often run out quickly. They could do a better job of planning.

Great location in Budapest
We had a wonderful stay, room was clean and quite compact with a lovely little balcony if you wanted to sit outside.Great location as we were taking a river cruise we just walked over the chain bridge to the ship the next morning. Also walking over the chain bridge into the city centre was convenient.Breakfast was also very delicious and included in the price.

Great breakfast, great coffee machine! Unfortunately, the hotel has a small staff, which resulted in me getting delayed one day because I had an issue with my safe, and no one could come look at it until breakfast service was over. This put me two hours behind schedule. This late start affected the quality of some of my experiences that day.

This was an older hotel but very clean and very friendly and accommodating staff. I selected it because it was a few blocks from where the river ships debark and although it would not have been an easy walk because of cobblestones (with luggage) and distance to our ship, it was perfect. They arranged a taxi which took us the short distance to our ship the next day and it was not expensive.

At least this one was open which is more than can be said about the "a very nice appartment" which we booked in Vienna which had closed and we w ere left to find our own accommodation. This has been told to your company but we have recieved no reply or offer of reimbursement, not a very good look for Expedia. Any acknowledgement or apology would be appreciated. BrendanMoore

Not one of the better places in the area.
Hotel is a bit dated. Compared to some in the nearby area. It’s stuck out the way also. Beds in my opinion are not comfortable at all. In a great area however for sights and nightlife. Nothing but water in the mini bar. Which for the price I’d expect a choice. Breakfast options are very poor. Overall the staff where helpful and place is clean but with the choices around I’d pick a more Local hotel with better amenities

The location is perfect for walking to the majority of tourism destinations. The only rhing the hotel needa to do is buy some new bed pillows. The were small and flat.

This was my first trip to Budapest & my first solo holiday. I chose the Carlton for its location and was thrilled! It’s in a beautiful part of Buda & close to the Palace & Fisherman’s Bastion within walking distance of the Chain Bridge & the Danube. The staff were really helpful even changing my room on arrival so that I had a bath tub; made reservations & gave recommendations for restaurants and were ver6 friendly. The breakfast was lovely & the hotel was spotlessly clean. I will definitely return to this beautiful city & would love to return to this hotel.

Hotel really good ...nice eateries close by...breakfasts were plentiful and decent.worth buying 7 day travel pass as you have several busses and trams and metro near hand...travel to any attractions in minutes...in general great holiday only one issue...Expedia transfer to this hotel shockingly bad because it’s just over chain bridge on buda side...took an extra hours to be dropped off ...they combined two airport pick ups...into one....hour wait at airport then left airport only to return back to airport....then two hours of transfers....last to be dropped off..so pretty annoying...avoid transfers...use airport bus or train
