"Traditional hotel with personality"
Stayed in room 24. The kitchen fans run all night, but apart from that, a great hotel. Excellent restaurant.

"Perfect location for walking and sights."
Well placed pub where you can walk into the peaks very easily. Buxton is close and has lots to offer. Good 'English' full breakfast but if you want more varied food, then a trip out is needed.

"Noisy Night"
Hotel is quite comfortable, however our room was directly over a function room which resulted in a very disturbed night and sleep was not possible until the early hours. This was very disappointing and considering the cost of the room not acceptable. A very big downside is no car park and you have to drive round the surrounding area to find a space.

Britannia Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa

Palace Road, Buxton SK17 6AG - Map
"Blast from the Past"
The Palace Hotel is an awesome building and it almost feels like you have stepped back in time to the late 1800's. It's packed with lots of original features, and you can still see the grandeur from a historic age. The hotel is not modern, and is in need of a total refit, but I think that's one of it charms, from the very squeaky floorboards, to the old school carpet and chunky doors, it's like a glimpse into the past. Don't go here if you want a modern trendy hotel, but if you want to experience the peaks from a retro hotel in a good location then this is perfect. The bathrooms are basic, but functional and the beds are two singles pushed together, but it worked for me and my girlfriend and we loved the character of the hotel. The SPA is also in need of a refit, but it has a pool, sauna and steam room which are nice after a hard days walk. We were there for the walking and sightseeing, so the full buffet breakfast was just what we needed and It's set in a brilliant location as Buxton is at the heart pf the peaks. The hotel itself is right near the SPA gardens and the nicer end of town, and I must say I love the red neon 'Palace Hotel' sign lighting up the Buxton skyline. I'd recommend this to some of my friends, but others wouldn't be able to see past it's faults to find the inner beauty of the place.

Buckingham Hotel Buxton

1-2 Burlington Road, Buxton SK17 9AS - Map
"Great hotel, fantastic position"
When we arrived we were unsure at first as the decor is a little dated which makes the hotel appear old, but the service was brilliant. The position is right across the road from the Pavilion, and the Opera House and also there are a few bars, wine bars and restaurants close by. The room was very clean and comfortable, not sure about the themed rooms though, ours had pictures of Demi Moore all over the walls but the shower was very efficient and hot.We were glad we decided to eat in the hotel, we had the home made soup which was exactly that and it was lovely, followed by the roast lamb dinner which as huge and at just below eight pounds for the main course it was what you would have had to pay anywhere else so we were very satisfied. The breakfast was great with toast, cereal, OJ full English if you want.Overall a very nice stay would recommend it to all.
