Close to city centre

Posted Jan 16, 2018
Pros: Location and room size are relatively good
Cons: An update is due and food service needs improvement
Location: Good
Generally, the hotel is ok. But: the bathroom and hot water are too hot, breakfasts are not cheap (£10 pp) nor hot enough, car parking is £15 a day, and after coming back after 11.00 pm one night we had to wait nearly 10 minutes for the night porter/receptionist to respond to our bell ringing! Handy for city centre though

Good location but very tired and poorly maintained

Posted Jan 8, 2018
Pros: Centrally located
Cons: Maintainence
Location: Very good for seeing the university
Very central location. Despite being on a busy road it's not loud and has good curtains. Comfy bed. Clean room, small room but didn't expect more for the money. But lack of care and maintenance let's it down, i.e. broken bulb in wall light, main light has bluish bulb so unpleasant lighting, thermostat on bathroom radiator has broken off, so it's on full power all the time and loud with the sound of the water, tooth mugs don't fit in the holder and are glass, so precariously balanced on top of holder.

An Excellent Home From Home Stay

Posted Dec 8, 2017
Pros: It was lovely to stay in an oldly, worldy hotel that had plenty of charm and character and didn't have that 'sterile' feel to it!!!
Cons: I do think the breakfast and parking was on the expensive side and one of them could be included in the price of the room (even if it was discounted?)
Location: Excellent location and easy access and walking distance to many things in central Cambridge....(I would like to stay longer next time to enjoy more!!)
An excellent, beautiful hotel full of old school charm, the young lady on reception was very courteous and helpful and answered all questions to the best of her abilities!!!

Cosy lounge and bar, and in a great location

Posted Dec 5, 2017
Pros: Reception areas very cosy
Cons: Room decor
Location: Recommend attending evensong at Kings College at around 5.30 p.m.
Just 5 minutes walk from all the main areas of Cambridge. Rooms in need of refurbishment but quite adequate and warm.

Overpriced

Posted Dec 4, 2017
This hotel is overpriced it is worn out and needs a make over. The bar had no staff unless you went looking both bar rooms were cold. They had events on for 2 of our 4 nights with loud music till 01.00 Food was good One member of staff was very rude to customers and staff in front of customers. Will not be going back. Had better room in Travelodge.

Convenient location, old world charm, great food, helpful pleasant staff. Room could have been a little larger but very clean. Enjoyed our stay.

Down-at- heel charm

Posted Nov 13, 2017
Pros: Position and ambience
Cons: The bedrooms need major investment.
Location: Walk into the city centre in 10 minutes.
Position great, public areas have cosy feel, service fine and there's a car park (uncommon in the city). BUT our bedroom was small and tired: The bed was comfortable, lighting good, even a trouser-press and opening windows. Plenty of hot water. BUT you have to edge in from the door round the end of the bed; the carpet is stained beige, the ancient radiators work erratically; there is nowhere to put a suitcase except on, or under, the desk. In the bathroom the plastic Mira shower works, but is a museum piece; the tile-effect floor covering doesn't lie flat; The window curtains almost end in the sink.

Perfectly adequate but paying for location

Posted Oct 21, 2017
Good food, clean room, comfortable environment with excellent reception staff. Dated style of decor, thin walls and audible neighbours, waiting staff who remove your plate if you put cutlery down mid-meal. Overall, the room price reflects location rather than high level hospitality and the location is, indeed, absolutely excellent; minutes away from the Fitzwilliam Museum, the botanical gardens, the backs and the city centre.
