Immaculate and Close to Everything in Old Town
"We stayed at the Barcelo Funchal Oldtown for 9 nights, and found the hotel to be exceptional, with outstanding staff. Our king room was very clean, and the public areas were immaculate as well. The biggest surprise was the wealth of offerings in the included daily breakfast. Food included made to order omelets, a number of other hot items, fresh fruit, fresh baked pastries and breads, juices, automated coffee machines, cold cuts, cheeses, and many other offerings. The decor was ultra modern, and we understand the Barcelo was named the top hotel in the world by Time magazine. It has only been open for a year. The rooftop pool and seating area is very scenic and relaxing, something we visited every day. I highly recommend the Barcelo as a top notch hotel in the middle of old town Funchal. Transportation from the airport to the Barcelo by the Aerobus is very inexpensive (6 euro one way or 10 round trip - use stop 5 or 6 with a half block walk from either), and there are hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment businesses within easy walking distance. Enjoy!"
