A pleasant hotel in the historic district

We were told that the building in which Hotel Castelmar is located was built over 200 years ago by the Spanish as a customs house for the nearby port. The hotel has 26 rooms around a central open courtyard which serves as a relaxed dining area. An adjacent courtyard holds a small pool. The common areas are lovely with large columns, arches, greenery and comfortable seating. All of the staff were great. Wifi works best in the common areas but also reaches some of the rooms. Our room was clean and quiet and large enough. It had a high wood beamed ceiling and a tiny balcony from which we had a view of the sea. Our private bathroom looked like it was added as an afterthought because it was tiny and encroached into the room. Our furniture was limited and a few hangers for clothing and towels would have been handy. Hotel parking is free in a private lot just across the quiet street. The historic neighborhood is remarkably clean and quiet and there are lots of options for dining. We enjoyed it a lot.
