Great location

Very comfortable. Clean room and pool. Wonderful center courtyard with strong wifi. The location is right where you want to be to access all the action. New pool lounger cushions would be nice.

Nice hotel close to the old town square

Posted Mar 3, 2016
This was the third time we stayed at the Castelmar. The only complaint, this time, was that the room faced the street and this made it quite noisy. Choose a room in the interior of the hotel. It's a beautiful old buiding with lots of charm.

A pleasant hotel in the historic district

Posted Feb 11, 2016
Pros: Clean and quiet in the historic district.
Cons: Add some furniture, especially shelves and hangers for clothing, towels, etc.
Location: The historic district has interesting museums, churches, a malecon, shops and restaurants.
We were told that the building in which Hotel Castelmar is located was built over 200 years ago by the Spanish as a customs house for the nearby port. The hotel has 26 rooms around a central open courtyard which serves as a relaxed dining area. An adjacent courtyard holds a small pool. The common areas are lovely with large columns, arches, greenery and comfortable seating. All of the staff were great. Wifi works best in the common areas but also reaches some of the rooms. Our room was clean and quiet and large enough. It had a high wood beamed ceiling and a tiny balcony from which we had a view of the sea. Our private bathroom looked like it was added as an afterthought because it was tiny and encroached into the room. Our furniture was limited and a few hangers for clothing and towels would have been handy. Hotel parking is free in a private lot just across the quiet street. The historic neighborhood is remarkably clean and quiet and there are lots of options for dining. We enjoyed it a lot.

There were only 2 pillows in the room and they were very thin. I usually need 2 pillows but as thin as these pillows were, I would have preferred 3. There were two of us in the room so even using 2 pillows was not an option.

Great place to stay

Posted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: Location, service, amenities and price
Cons: Maybe a bar service in the courtyard in the evenings to relax. This hotel does not offer alcoholic beverages or refreshments after breakfast.
If you like old colonial hotels this is the place to stay. Spacious rooms, a beautiful courtyard, lovely small swimming pool. The continental breakfast buffet is sufficient and an additional selection of eggs and omelettes is available ( breakfast is not included in your room rates). The location is excellent with good restaurants and the historic centre of town are just two blocks away. The personnel is excellent and helpful. Some noise if your room faces the road but it is not too busy at night. The rooms facing the courtyard are quieter but a bit dark.
