Sumptuous

Posted Aug 14, 2017
Location: Location was ideal- a 15 minute walk takes you to the major museums (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum), Anne Frank House, and Red Light district.
This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've stayed at in a long travel career. Truly elegant, but very comfortable throughout the property- not at all stuffy. I hate the overly fancy hotels where one almost feels the need to dress up in a tuxedo for breakfast. Thankfully, that's not the case here. We upgraded to a 1 BR suite with a balcony over a canal. Fabulous to sit outside, have a drink, and watch the world go by. Rooms were sumptuously decorated with deep red walls, high ceilings, and very large reproductions of Rembrandt. We stayed here for 7 nights, and we felt as if we were the luckiest people in Amsterdam. Staff were friendly and interactive without being ingratiating. When I called for more Nespresso pods for the in-room coffee machine, an entire sleeve of them (8-10 pods?) appeared with a knock at the door nearly as soon as I hung up the phone! A wonderful experience.

Great hotel

The hotel is located in the middle of everything. Walking distance to all the museums, attractions, shopping, and good restaurants. The staff are there for you any minute of the day or night. The rooms are comfortable and cozy. The hotel also has great restaurants. Had an amazing stay!

Demand a room with windows

Posted Jul 1, 2017
Not a cheap hotel. We were given a room that did not have windows that looked outside. They looked out to a glass covered hallway. People would walk right by us while we were in bed. We asked nicely if we could move. One person in particular was INCREDIBLY rude at the front desk. Besides the room, the hotel seemed very nice but it was stuffy. Appears to be more of a business hotel.

Fantastic hotel in a great location but the restaurant and spas were too expensive for most people to use.

Dear Michael, It is a pleasure to read that you thought the hotel fantastic and the location great. We are sorry that you consider the restaurant and spa expensive, especially since we offer an attractive Bib Gourmand menu for a very reasonal price. Location is nice

Posted May 23, 2017
Pros: Beautiful old style - you feel like you're in the early part of he century.
Cons: Experience / management of outside restaurant; room size; prices at nicer inside restaurant.
Location: Great for canal rides and renting bikes and beautiful meals along the canal - cannot be beat. Great for local restaurants in 9 streets area nearby
It is a beautiful place, and the concierge and reception staff are nice. However, rooms are quite small & noise from the canal is loud on sat night (thin windows?) and woke my wife and I up several times (in our 50s). Food at the canal side restaurant is good but staff are a. It inattentive (inexperienced?). The high end restaurant inside has high end food and prices to match but my wife and I both felt we had better food at more local restaurants that are located within 10 minute walks in beautiful neighborhoods. Need to stay away from the downtown tourist trashy scene located on one side of the restaurant which is loud and not great. In the end it is a beautiful old building that is. Sry well appointed with a very attentive concierge and front door staff - friendly accommodating and all good.

Just not worth it! Room description is not true! A Tiny room with big bathroom! Just too Small to charge me over HKD 5,000 per night! Nothing really special about this hotel! Not recommended to stay!
