honest review

Wicked steep stairs lead from front door at street level to lobby which is more than one flight up. Rooms are another flight or two up. No elevator. Alll of the hotel staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The lobby, dining area and balconies with bistro tables and flowering plants are lovely. However, the room was the smallest that I have ever seen. The bed is wedged between 3 walls and the only floor space is the entryway which is about 5 feet by 2 feet. The room is barely large enough for one person. There was a luggage rack in the little closet, but no floor space to set it up so we put it on top of the little desk. No place to open a suitcase except on the bed and no place to stand except in the entryway or bathroom. The bed was reasonably comfortable but not great. The hotel provides a very good complimentary breakfast. The hotel is situated near the Anne Frank House and canal boat tours. There are very good restaurants nearby. I highly recommend an exceptional Indian restaurant: Koh - Noor that is only about 2 blocks away. All in all, a great 2star hotel which is quite an accomplishment.

Pros: Location. Price of the room. The staff was truly excellent.
Location: Close to everything if you don't mind a little walking.
Great location. Great breakfast. Clean comfortable rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. You can walk to almost everything in town. Lots of restaurants and shopping. Canals all around. Had a really enjoyable stay.

Authentic and homey

This is an old Amsterdam building with ridiculously narrow and steep staircases and no elevator. Oh, and the first floor is two floors up. But, the staff is cheery and helpful and will do all the heavy lifting and generally go out of their way to make you feel like you're at home.

Conveniently located, 5 min walk from Nieuwkirk, 20 min from station. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom were small but very clean. Mini-fridge in the room a plus.

Ok, so they're not lying when they say they only have stairs to get upstairs. We stayed on the top floor, which is the third floor - to get from the entrance to the third floor was 70 narrow steps. But don't let that scare you, the staff their is quite helpful and very skilled in getting your luggage up and down the floors. We had the pleasure of being helped by Bob - he was knowledgeable about the city and provided recommendations. If you have the time, enjoy breakfast on the cute terrace they got - very quaint!

Nice people at the reception. The rooms are not huge but big enough for a good rest. The room was clean and the bathroom too. The position is perfect for visit the main attractions of the city. The breakfast service is very varied and good.

We didn't realize that our room would be 70 steps away. The staff was great carry her suitcases up and down. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff eagerly helped us get around Amsterdam!
