The staff were the best feature

Posted Jul 3, 2016
Pros: The staff
Cons: Just about everything else needs improving
Location: I was there for a family function.
Hotel itself is worn and tired. Needs an upgrade. It is not a 4 star. No more than 3 in my view. However, the staff made the stay enjoyable Public areas were cool to cold as the airconditioning did not cope.

Good central location with parking.

Posted Apr 25, 2016 on Lastminute
Pros: Location, parking, wi fi, bar and lounge area. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Cons: Facilities in room on arrival e.g. milk, iron. Our room looked like it hadn't been clean for a couple of days yet it wasn't ready on our arrival.
Location: See above.
Moderate property - 4 star due to facilities available I expect. Good lounge area near bar area to peruse books, kids to watch TV or play which they enjoyed rather than just being confined to a room. Helpful staff for every request. Room did not have milk or an iron but both were supplied when asked. Location is central with easy access to Kingston, Manuka, bus depot markets, parliament house etc if you have a car (it is near main roads so expect public transport also convenient). Had a bit of noise first night like rain dripping on tin which was quite loud - not sure if it was coming from the kitchen, a drain or outside roofing area. If this had continued I would have asked for a room change. We were at the back on the ground floor which was easy for access with kids and bags and I expected it to be noisy but it wasn't.

Customers are really everything (CARE)

Posted Apr 23, 2016 on Wotif
Pros: Room size, it was clean and comfortable.
Cons: Service and decore update.
Location: Great.
Staff not motivated or oriented to serve and interact w guests in a positive, dynamic way, Sunday breakfast waiter the exception. Sent back undercooked corn fritters, chef advised the issue was that they were made with almond meal and soy milk, I'm from Sydney, eat out every weekend and twice a week, organic, paleo, ingredient were not the problem. Food very ordinary. The dinosaurs a big hit with the kids, awful and not very dignified or ambient. The furniture needs upgrading (not in rooms). The artwork, sad.

Sad and Overpriced

Posted Apr 21, 2016
Pros: Pillow Room, Staff, Open Plan on ground Floor
Cons: As Per Above
Location: Manuka/Kingston both good places for eating, Manuka Oval, Not far to Parliament House etc
Stayed for 3 nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) On arrival were greeted by a friendly young lady who was most helpful and explained what was necessary (well done). Was given a room on the 3rd floor, (thank heavens for the lift). The room had some shortfalls namely I presume this hotel has been around for some time as indicated by the lights Wardrobe/hutch set-up with adjoining writing desk, plus bathroom and balcony. I will start with the bathroom, it has a tub/shower combo with half a glass door at the shower end which is pretty ineffective as water will get out onto the tiled floor no matter what you do, which in turn presents a real safety issue as it is very slippery. Granted you have the use of a floor towel but invariably this becomes water logged leaving you in a quandary i.e. slippery floor without towel or no slippery floor and what to do with a dripping towel!! When one looks at the ceiling it is a guess whether it is mould or there has been an electrical burn at some stage as can been seen by the attached photo. The exhaust fan is pretty non-existent as proven when one does shower and you have to wipe the mirror down each time and we are not talking about a HOT shower either. Ok moving now to the bed. We both prefer pretty hard beds but fully understand that this may not always be the case from place to place but this bed was the worst, when you laid down you literally got lost in it so much so that it was hard to roll over. I think this mattress was about as old as the ho

Quiet and comfortable.

Stayed for one night. Rooms are not large by modern standards. The queen size room was a basic motel room but the bedding was comfortable and the room was quiet. We needed milk and extra wine glasses which the duty manager happily brought to us.

Nice hotel, close to upcoming dining precinct

Posted Apr 17, 2016 on Wotif
I chose the hotel as it was close to my wedding venue and I had a morning wedding. The room size was brilliant to have hair and makeup easily done and the staff went above and beyond to help any way they could. The hotel is within walking distance to the Kingston foreshore as well. A little bit dated with some decor, but everything else makes up for that.

Hi Emma, Thanks for sharing your experience and congratulations on the wedding! Our refurbishments should be finished by early 2017 so perhaps we should make a reservation for your first anniversary? Hope to see you again soon

Convenient, charming, friendly stay.

Posted Apr 16, 2016
Location: The location is excellent. Easy access to major roads and close to landmarks of interest in Canberra.
Entering the Diplomat was a nice surprise. It's quirky design with the open interior and inner facing rooms was intriguing. A huge display of dinosaurs needed a photo! We enjoyed sitting and having a drink before dinner, then walking a short distance for our delicious dinner. After a very early start for our hot air balloon ride, we returned for a scrumptious breakfast. The room was tidy, comfortable and quite spacious. Overall, a wonderful stay.
