Pros: The staff were nice and it is quite old world in appearance so does have some charm but really needs some TLC,
Location: Great location very central.
Hotel looks charming from outside but inside the rooms it is all looking a bit shabby. Bed was very uncomfortable, it seemed to slope downwards. The shower recess had mould in the tiles and the bathroom had dust and dirt on the floor. There is a gap around the door that lets lots of light in from the very bright hallway light so room quite lit up and hard to sleep.

Disappointing - feels like staying in a hospital

Posted Dec 7, 2016
Pretty disappointing in terms of the price per room. Very old fashioned and you have this strange feeling like you are staying in a hospital in a developing country or something...

A lovely hotel

The Mercure was a perfect mix of creature comforts in the rooms and fabulously manicured gardens and green outside. I found it exceptional with how welcoming the common gardens and areas were. It had culture and history. Will visit again.

Ok place to stay

Posted Sep 27, 2016
The staff were very friendly & helpful on what to do in Canberra. My room was very clean, furniture needed abit updating. Bathroom was tiny, though traveling by myself so fine . Out door courtyard was very pretty with flowers . Parking costs $10 per day, and limited breakfast choice. At $24 for the buffet breakfast , it was very expensive for an average variety of food.

Nice old world charm, close to War Memorial

Posted Aug 25, 2016
Pros: Open fire and fact that it is a "dog" friendly hotel.
Cons: Lighting in bathroom very poor
Location: Location quiet and walking distance to War Memorial
Room very comfortable but bathroom lighting inadequate. Nice area but had to pay $10 per day to park car on premises. Had restaurant and pub meals which were pleasant, need to drive to any other restaurants. Would stay again especially if re visiting War Memorial.

Nice, warm and ideally located

Posted Jul 4, 2016
Pros: Staff Room size Warmth Fireplace
Cons: the amount of external light, the window had a street light coming through, also around the door the passage light was bright, perhaps a timer on it ?
Location: Walking distance too everything, ( if you are willing too brave the cold )
Stayed at this hotel for a friends Birthday. When we arrived it was busy however the staff were friendly and the hotel was warm, a trait that continued upstairs in the room where it was warm and big enough for two. Our room was located above the pub and facing the main road however never heard a noise from the pub and the main road was heard when it was late in the morning or during the day. I would recommend it to anyone staying in Canberra.

Excellent historical hotel near centre of Canberra

Posted Jun 7, 2016
Pros: Atmosphere and the friendly staff. Excellent bistro and Courtyard restaurant..,..would recommend to all. Loved the two unusual fish aquariums.
Cons: Was happy with what we had .Loved the balcony and the well tended courtyard gardens.
Location: Close to Canberra Centre and War Memorial...good, easy walking distance. Close to Lonsdale Street and more galleries and restaurants.
Very happy with the staff and all the facilities. We had an air conditioning problem in the room and we were upgraded to another room which was very much appreciated. Friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable hotel. Loved the historical side which was displayed through photographs along the corridors. Warm open fires in an inviting lounge area in which to relax.
