Good convenient location

Posted Nov 27, 2016
Pros: character and old style design and lovely comfortable king size bed
Cons: Too much black which makes an old building even darker inside. Replace almost black curtains from wall areas with some interesting lighter prints
Location: Easy walking distance to city centre and a lovely walk to the Museum on Acton Peninsula.
Loved the hotel. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Also enjoyed dining at the in house restaurant where the food and service was very good. Only minuses were the black and very dark interiors and badly designed shower with water running right across ledge to opposite wall behind toilet which required us to put a hand towel in place to isolate water flow and not soak the toilet roll.

Pros: The room was very nice, but the Bang and Olufsen TV an antique!
Cons: Maybe the walk to the room - after all it's an old hotel.
Location: Excellent location, good restaurants in hotel and within 5 mins walk. Close to city and good breakfast venues if you want something different

Good and comfortable hotel

Posted Sep 19, 2016
Pros: We came to Canberra for the Floriade, the Royal Australian Mint and the War Memorial. These locations were in short distances from the hotel
Cons: We were in room 123 and it was impossible to get HOT water for a shower. Luke warm water was the maximum we could get out of the taps.
Location: The hotel is within reasonable distance from the airport. We visited Floriade, the Mint and war memorial
On weekdays parking could be a problem. Paid parking in front and in the streets surrounding the hotel OR in a (shared) parking garage are in short supply. Free parking in the weekends is hardly available

Overall, we are very happy with our stay. We were there for a conference at ANU, so it was perfectly located. Walking distance to the lakes in Canberra, to downtown, and also a number of museums. The best part is that it is next door to various restaurants, from home-made fresh foods, to high end place.

Great designer hotel but with a few hickups

Posted Aug 28, 2016 on Lastminute
Pros: interior design and location ... great
Cons: fine tune your restaurant.
This is a lovely hotel with great value rooms which look divine. Whoever did the interiors on this remodelled old building did a great job. Hip hotel in a great precinct. However our stay was not perfect as initial impressions may have suggested. Firstly, we were awoken by staff knocking on our door at 10.30pm only to find it was the wrong room. Secondly, the hotel restaurant, Bicicletta has a great menu and we were keen to give it a go. However the food was terrible and the service arrogant and unskilled. We ordered the gin and beetroot cured salmon salad and the fish of the day which were both specials (specially stuffed up). The salad looked dry and the greens were straight out of the last bag of mixed leaves from woolies ... you know, the one stuck at the back of the crisper with a few slimy baby beetroot leaves on the bottom. The beautiful (and large) cuts of John Dory were overcooked and dried out ... a crying shame. They did offer a free gelato, which was an attempt to make up for the way the floor manager handled things when I pointed out the issues. The pizza my 9 year old had was a success as was the gnocchi for my wife. A free gelato is one thing but I still paid top dollar for a mediocre meal where half the dishes were a waste of time ... and I haven't even gotten onto the way they rushed us through with all dishes served at once (we were still having our aperitif). Basically I think they greedily squeezed us in and then tried to bluff us through.

Excellent hotel

This hotel exceeded my expectations, very comfortable for a two night stay, quick easy walk to the city centre. For the price I paid I would certainly stay here again and most probably will. Unfortunately the wifi was really slow, although it was free so I can't complain too much. Also I wasn't too please about the bathroom door which lacked some privacy.
