Great designer hotel but with a few hickups

This is a lovely hotel with great value rooms which look divine. Whoever did the interiors on this remodelled old building did a great job. Hip hotel in a great precinct.
However our stay was not perfect as initial impressions may have suggested. Firstly, we were awoken by staff knocking on our door at 10.30pm only to find it was the wrong room. Secondly, the hotel restaurant, Bicicletta has a great menu and we were keen to give it a go. However the food was terrible and the service arrogant and unskilled. We ordered the gin and beetroot cured salmon salad and the fish of the day which were both specials (specially stuffed up). The salad looked dry and the greens were straight out of the last bag of mixed leaves from woolies ... you know, the one stuck at the back of the crisper with a few slimy baby beetroot leaves on the bottom. The beautiful (and large) cuts of John Dory were overcooked and dried out ... a crying shame. They did offer a free gelato, which was an attempt to make up for the way the floor manager handled things when I pointed out the issues. The pizza my 9 year old had was a success as was the gnocchi for my wife. A free gelato is one thing but I still paid top dollar for a mediocre meal where half the dishes were a waste of time ... and I haven't even gotten onto the way they rushed us through with all dishes served at once (we were still having our aperitif). Basically I think they greedily squeezed us in and then tried to bluff us through.
