Better off elsewhere

While it is easy to look past the hotel's dated design and room decor, it is not easy to look past a less than professional manager (perhaps even owner) and their staff. He was quite rude upon our arrival but acted as if it was simply sarcasm and good humor. He informed me that I had reserved more rooms than were available at their lower price-point but that they had resolved the problem and ended up giving (without our request) my colleague and I a large suite. This was more than kind of them but also not necessary - we simply wanted the rooms we had originally reserved. In the end, while final payment was being made, he attempted to charge us an upgrade fee for each room, per night. I explained that this could not be as we did not request any upgrade. He did oblige and acted as if he were doing me a favor by removing the fee. Also, he attempted to quote my final payment as more than what Expedia had quoted and which I had agreed to when I paid my deposit. I showed him my original reservation through Expedia and once again, he obliged and acted as if he were being generous by not asking for a higher rate. In the end I paid what was expected (however, the one dinner we had at the hotel was alarmingly expensive with $20+ margaritas), but it was quite unsettling that he would make multiple attempts to get me to pay more than what was arranged through Expedia. I trust Expedia but I don't appreciate that he would try to manipulate that existing system.

We have checked and you were given an upgrade from a Partial Ocean View to a 2bed Ocean View Suite with living room and dining room, so that you could hold your group readings, at no charge. During your stay we checked with you several times and at no point did you complain. We do not feel it is fair to write negative comments about our services when our staff did their best to make your stay enjoyable. We would reiterate the the room upgrade charge for the 2bed suite was waived. With regards to our F&B pricing, guests are not obliged to consume drinks - our prices are stated on our menus and are comparable with other 4*hotels in the area.
