Average hotel with above average food

Posted Aug 24, 2015
Pros: Food, beach and beach activities (jet ski etc.) near.
Cons: Train staff for improved customer service
Location: Ferry to Isla Mujeres and excursions within walking distance; shopping and restaurants several bus stops away.
Our stay at the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun was just ok. Lots of variety at the buffet with abundant fresh fruits. The food at the Crystal and Italian restaurant was very good. Japanese and especially the Mexican, I thought, was disappointing. I've had better fajitas in the US. I didn't find the staff to be sincerely friendly. They seemed superficially nice for tips. At one mealtime, a family at the next table finished and got up to leave without tipping and I overheard the waiter saying bye and telling them to have a goodnight, then under his breadth said in singsong, "never come back". I thought it was insulting since as all-inclusive tips were included and not required. Shortly after the check-in, there was no power or water for several hours due to maintenance or whatever and had to walk up and down multiple floors. Later that night after power and water came back on but no hot water so I had to take shower with cold water, which wasn't pleasant. I was ready to check-out the next day but things got a little better but by then I was already disappointed and just wanted to make best of rest of the time there.

The food was not too great, especially the Japanese restaurant, the worst sushi ever, also the italian restaurant, not too great. We did enjoy the Mexican restaurant, which was the best out of all. The buffet was okay too.

Good not Great

Posted Aug 22, 2015
Having booked our room at least six months in advance in the low season, expected better room. When we arrived, not advised that TV and hot water was out and had been for most of day. Service finally restored later that night. After first night, paid for an upgrade room by the pool which was way better than the "garden view" back lot room we were first given. Service is quite good, response time very quick when requesting room service or to fix something. Food is good not great. Like many all inclusive places, they insist on requiring reservations for the specialty restaurants which are usually full due to small table count, and quite boring when you do get in. Best choice is the main dining room, no res required. The adult only pool is the nicest but very quiet. The main pool is pretty raucous and kind of tired looking, had expected a nicer pool area. Beach is very limited, lot of sea weed, but they made every effort to clean up. That stretch of hotel zone beach is just sort of second rate by and large.

Det är en väldigt bra hotel med trevliga personal och väldig väldig go mat, Det enda negativa är 2 saker 1: dålig wifi 2: du får max en handduk när du går till poolen eller stranden

One of the best

Posted Aug 20, 2015
Pros: The cleanliness, the warm welcome and the customer service.
Cons: nothing
Location: Bus and Taxis are within reach. good location
From start to finish my experience with the Riu Peninsula was great. They know how to welcome people. Other places I have been, people give you great smile when you give them tips. At Riu, you get great smile with and without tip. They would do everything to accommodate you. I would recommend that hotel to my friends and family.

Hotel and food was great. No wifi in our room. We normally do not stay at an all-inclusive. We enjoyed our stay. We would go again.

Excellent service

When we checked out our room , I accidentally left me cell phone in the room charging . The cleaning man called and ran toward us by the elevator to return the cell phone to me . He is so honest and the service is excellent ! Thanks for having such excellent employee in the resort !
