Like the Captain had let us stay @ his family home

Posted Nov 16, 2016
Pros: Artfully lit lounge. Fireplace in every room, log-woods and fire starter awaiting every night. Snacks/lemonade available even at 7pm.
Cons: Noticed the old keyhole and slight gap atop room door. Hair dryer was too gentle for wifey's copious locks. Hubby wisely brought multi-plug charger.
Location: 2.5hr drive from Boston on off-season Veterans Day 11 Nov Weekend. Businesses were still open. Weather's ok if under the sun, bundle up if windy 30F.
Booked Windsor, got upgraded to Victoria, even enjoying additional discount thanks to the gracious Host Tim. At the end of our off-peak weekend, we left late, and saw all 5 rooms upstairs: Bristol Suite - Cape/street view, nautical blue deco, sunny seaview window, huuuuge bathroom York Suite - Cape/street view, porcelain-blue deco, pretty double-happiness urn Victoria - Tranquil, pretty, mini-suite Royal Scot - Snug mancave Chartwell - Small and sufficient The Host Tim made all the difference - His approachable, unobtrusive mannerism helped us feel relaxed and settled. Brought breakfast spread out even when we're late. Very much appreciated. BTW If you receive a DC-based call, pick up, it's The Captain asking if you're finding your way ok. The Housekeeper (Dolce?) - Her cheerful presence and responsiveness makes this feel like a sunny family home. Previous guests mentioned the creaky wooden floor - it really just added to the charm of our vintage New England experience. Despite more than half-full occupancy, no noise bothered us at anytime. In fact the only people we met in the inn were the host Tim, the housekeeper, a mother-and-teen-daughter team who checked out when we were having breakfast, and from afar, the host's curious 9-mth-old puppy. Free parking's crucial. Park here and stroll easily to Commercial St's East and West End as well as Pilgrim Monument; because even on off-peak weekends like this, we could not find street parking on Commercial St.

Snug Cottage - a little too snug and mildewy

Posted Aug 20, 2016 on Hotels
Overall, it was OK. The house (all common areas) was NOT air conditioned. IT was extremely hot and humid. My room, the Lady Diana Spencer room, was midewy and the AC did not work well. It broke down on my last night there. I also wound up getting a bacterial upper respiratory infection due to the AC (old window unit and in poor condition) and the general mildewiness of the room. The house boy was unfriendly. The owner was nice and the breakfast was decent. The rest of the rooms in the house were very nice. Just don't get the Lady Diana room !

Convenient and quiet

Convenient, short walk to town center shops and restaurants. Despite my room being along busy road, it was quiet.

Close to everything

We loved the historic old home. The owners were exceptionally helpful and accommodating. The bed was very comfortable and the room was comfortable, just so small and no closet. The bathroom only accommodated one person at a time with no place for toiletries at the sink nor in the shower. The lighting was very good. Breakfast is provided and by far one of the best. Had a wonderful living area for reading or just relaxing. The room had a fridge which is always a plus. BUT, would I stay there again? Yes.
