Some renovations are needed
Overall, the property is nice and staff are very friendly making sure your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. It is a perfect venue for weddings or special occasions. The property is listed as a 5-star hotel. Our room, however, had the entire backwall with peeling paint in the bathroom which suggest previous water damage that has not been fixed. This is rather unacceptable for a hotel rated at 5-stars with a nightly rate of more than $400/night. Hence, our lower rating.

An amazing hotel. Great location. Superb staff and service. Excellent food. Room amenities great except bath towels too small, no bath salts or bubble bath yet a massive bath. Drain blocked in shower on first night. Moved to inferior room for one night. Shower fixed and we could move back to our luxurious room. Unfortunately at check out management decided not to refund me for part of cost for staying in an inferior room for one night to what was booked.

We stayed for one night. Hotel and surrounds beautiful, very peaceful. A few small improvements like bathroom, drains blocked and would prefer 2 ply toilet paper. Our bath robes had holes in them, pillows were not comfortable at all and TV channels faulty.

Overall great hotel with lovely staff
Beautiful hotel with high service level. The staff is very welcoming, restaurants are serving amazing food for lunch, dinner and breakfast (one of the best I ever had!). Price value is fantastic overall. The rooms are clean, nicely designed and there’s nothing to complain... in detail there could be some cosmetics done.

Not as good as last year
We visited last year and regretfully there has been some overall reduction in atmosphere and attention to detail. Room was excellent. Dining was mixed in respect that food remained excellent, waiting on tables and provisions like cutlery and breakfast buffet had dropped except for one lady , sorry cannot recall her name, who appeared to be in charge in main restaurant; she was very good and definitely knew what she was doing. The bar provision was poor. I like gin and my first 4 choices although listed were not available.. and they were not rare ones. Sad to see the drop. However still serene and tranquil place.

Nice hotel with lovely views
The room we stayed in was very spacious (room 102) with a large balcony overlooking to pool, vineyards and mountains. Staff friendly. Wine tasting was good. Nice pool area. Very clean. Breakfast was very good.

Very nice comfortable room in stunning location
Lovely if brief stay at Asara - nice big comfortable room overlooking the lake. Huge selection at the buffet breakfast. Nice walks through the vineyards with stunning views. We had a very enjoyable meal at Sansibar with delicious gin cocktails. The complimentary wine tasting was great fun too! All staff were welcoming and helpful. Special thanks for Serge for fixing the number plate that had fallen off our hire car!

We liked everything about the property. Morning walk through the Vineyards, Beautiful view from our Balcony. Nice food and drink at the Pub/Lounge (limited menu, well prepared!) Excellent take-away breakfast prepared for our morning drive back to Capetown. A pleasant surprise!

Picture Perfect Property with near perfect service
We decided to stay here after visiting for a wine tasting. From the moment we reached the front gate the service from the staff was second to none. I travel extensively for work and this is some of the best service I have received anywhere. Upon reaching the car park our bags were collected and we were escorted to reception where they were waiting with our paperwork ready to sign and hot towels Incase we had a long journey. The room was beautiful and the view from the balcony was straight out of a picture. We dined in their restaurant that evening and the food was amazing. The only thing stopping this from being perfect was the breakfast staff, compared to all the other service we received this was lacking in quality. The staff were not as friendly and were slow to assist. We had to ask 3 times for coffee and in the end gave up as we had eaten our breakfast already. Everything else about this place was perfect and I would definitely choose this property again if I was returning to the area.

Asara, one to avoid!
After securing my booking on Hotels.com I was then sent an email by Asara on the morning of check saying if I didn’t supply my full card details before 11am my reservation would be cancelled ! The reception staff were disinterested and I felt quite rude to both myself and guests. They then charged my R50 for the keycard that was left in the room in check out. The bar staff are good and the bar (called Sansibar) at both good with great views. Sadly though the miserable and rude nature of the check in staff and the email demanding money upfront or they would cancel my booking took the shine off my stay. I will not be going back and will recommend to colleagues, friends and family that this is one to avoid. You’d be better staying at Spier a short distance down the road with staff that engage with you and care about both your stay and welfare.

Dear E, Thank-you for the visit to Asara, we’re sorry to hear that the credit card issue took the shine off your stay. That issue arose only because Hotels.com allowed, without notice to us, your booking to be made without credit card details being supplied. This is something that we do not accept and that has now been corrected with Hotels.com. To rectify the situation with your booking we sent you a polite e-mail on the morning of check-in requesting you to supply credit card details as would normally be done in the booking process. This was entirely reasonable, and we’re not sure why it should cause you to be offended. Our staff was not rude to you and your guests at check-in. We simply required that your guests supply identification, a standard part of the check-in process. The R50 was charged not because the keycard was left in your room but, as we informed you per e-mail, because the card was lost. Asara Hotel Management

Tranquil, with two excellent restaurants, yet within easy reach of many other restaurants should you require it. Even the basic rooms are charming and large; the better ones have superb mountain views, but you can also enjoy those from the main courtyard. My room faced into a smaller courtyard which was less spectacular, but just as pleasant. Just a very efficient, enjoyable, relaxing mini-resort style hotel, and competively priced.

One of the best places I’ve stayed- I only wished it had been longer than one night so I could have enjoyed it more! The staff were so nice and helpful, rooms and property beautiful and immaculate, and vibe upscale and decadent. We had a courtyard room and the views were breathtaking- much more so than we imagined. It was the perfect jumping off point for a bike tour of Stellenbosch!

Hotel was lovely in a beautiful location and though our room was great, the bedrrom was vvery dark. Not enough lights. The bathroom was very bright though.
