Thanks David for your great review. We were never called quirky before, that is a new one. The purpose of the external shutters (they are not blinds) is to allow extra air and light into the room as required without losing privacy. Thank you for staying and being a great easy going guest. Your comments re sounds are noted but bearing in mind you were staying in the original house you must realise that standards then were not up to modern day hotel ones. You will find similar comments are common in reviews on other guest houses, so we are not unique and you should bear this in mind in future when booking establishments. However the advantage is that they generally have more character and more interaction with the owner making you a guest among a few and not a number among many. Thank you for your review. I do think you have the wrong guest house as we are 25km from the airport which on a good day is 30 minutes. We are however, nice staff!! Frank

Arriving at lunchtime 2 hours before agreed check in and expecting the room to be ready is not a good way to create a good relationship between guest and owner. Especially when the guest shows that they are unhappy about it. Check in/out and meal times are standard practice in hospitality, ours are not strict as we have to how some flexibility. The egg was not refused but would take time as the others wanted, fried, scrambled and then poached!!

The owner is customer orientated as the vast majority of reviewers agree, and consequently must defend himself from bitter unwarranted attacks from a guest who should have booked a hotel. The venom from this guest stems from being requested not to use the drive gate at 06.00 in the mornings and disturb other guest sleeping. He was requested not to do this on arrival and it is also written in the welcome booklet but ignored it. The taxi company offered a concessionary trip back to the airport as it was their mistake. The property is a house and obviously prone to being nosier than a purpose built hotel. The gate does not squeak but rumble and is well maintained. We are one from 3 guest houses in Sea Point with secure off street parking out of 15 albeit sometimes a little inconvenient but never a problem. The pool was dirty for a couple of days due to the wind blowing very strongly, impossible to keep clean. We do not have aircon but fans which are generally more than adequate for the Cape Town climate and healthier. The rooms vary in size but as he had our largest, his comments are unwarranted. All our rooms are quiet, it is the guests that make them noisy as everywhere! The neighbourhood is safe, walking distance to shops, restaurants, the promenade and bus routes. Anyone who cares to read our directions will have no problem in finding us. He forgot to mention time taken to familiarise him with the area, Cape Town and the things to do plus the breakfast he tucked into in the mornings, he certainly enjoyed and made the most of that.

Air conditioning has been considered but the overall opinion was that the number of days it would be useful is minimal in temperate Cape Town plus most guests prefer the quieter hum of the fan and better air quality. Yes, parking can be a bit tricky but remember we are lucky to be able to accommodate 5/6 cars securely off street and parking on the streets around here is very limited. As to the sweet little pool, come off it, it is 10m x 5m and one can have a good swim in it, one of the biggest guest house pools around unlike many others who only have plunge pools!!

As the owner lives on the premises, there is no problem in contacting him. In this day and age, just about everyone has a mobile phone so in an emergency costs do not come into account. Emergency numbers are clearly shown in the room information. Otherwise we are pleased you enjoyed your stay.

We consider the review mark 1 from 5 as defamatory (deliberately injurious to our reputation) as all the problems were caused by themselves and their attitude. There was also the threat of blackmail (0 out of 5) and inciting to violence (husband looking for a fight) We have never had such a low score and although we are not perfect but do not deserve this. It was obviously deliberate to defame us. We do not consider this as a proper review as there are no comments and the guests did it anonymously although we know who they are. Their review should not be allowed in our opinion and should be deleted.

Es überrascht mich, dass der Rezensent von Größe besessen ist !! Zu seinen Gunsten blieb er in einem Queen-Zimmer, das 25qm groß ist und ein en-suite mit einer großen ebenerdigen Dusche hat. Das Bett ist Queen-Size mit einem Schreibtisch / Schminktisch 150cm plus 2 Stühle. Sicherlich ist das mehr als ausreichend für 2 Gäste. Die Zimmer liegen nahe beieinander ?? Ja, in einem Hotel sind die Zimmer nahe beieinander. Ja, sie haben ihren eigenen direkten Eingang, aber als kleine Wohnungen? Die Gäste finden dies in der Regel als Vorteil, wenn sie kommen und gehen können. Nein, es gibt keine Kochgelegenheit; Wir sind nicht Selbstversorger, also sind sie Schlafzimmer mit en-Suiten und nicht Wohnungen. Nachdem wir alles gesagt haben, schätzen wir alle anderen guten Punkte. Schade, dass er nicht die Dinge, die er uns sagte, erwähnt, das große Frühstück, das er genossen und wie makellos sauber das Zimmer war, statt !!
