Great stayPosted Sep 28, 2015
Pros: There was a lot to do and options to eat at as well I liked that we could get a bit of exercise with walking the property or riding the bikes
Cons: We went to the wine tasting right at or near closing and they were not accommodating
Location: Great wineries and golf courses
We stayed 2 nights it was a large room clean and very cosy extra large king bed and a nice soaker tub great restaurants and the breakfast was very good I highly recommend this hotel and would stay again

Not as good as it used to bePosted Aug 1, 2015
Pros: Lovely staff. Cosy sitting area with fire - lovely winter location. Also great as a summer location.
Cons: Bathrooms need to be upgraded.
Location: Eagle Encounters, Wine Tasting, Nice walks. Would not recommend more than a 2 night stay though.
We haven't stayed in Spier for 13 years and haven't visited for 9 years, so this was a bit disappointing in some respects. I found a deal on Expedia and it seemed great value for money. There isn't as much to do here as there used to be, but Eagle Encounters was still great and we were unfortunate that the weather was bad so we couldn't enjoy the grounds more. Staff were fantastic, very friendly and welcoming. Restaurant and bar were good. I still love the huge fire that they have in the sitting area - perfect to sit around and relax on a wintery night! The only issues were the condition of the room, especially the bathroom. We were upgraded and the room was wonderful, but not especially clean, and the bathroom really needed some TLC - old, tired and grubby. Also, when the room was turned down for the night, the rubbish bins had been emptied on a table - obviously someone had forgotten to pick the rubbish up afterwards! The main issue was that there was an SA Government conference of some sort taking place. In the room above, some of the delegates were obviously meeting for drinks. We thought the noise would be short-lived, but it got worse and worse - singing, shouting until 4am in the morning, so we didn't sleep well. We considered mentioning in the morning, but it was too late by then and it really wasn't the hotel's fault. All in all, good in parts and I wouldn't rule it out for a stay, but not the luxury experience I remember.

Great staff, location and Culinary HavenPosted Jun 9, 2015
Upon arrival the receptionist took note that it was our anniversary, by the time we went to the room there was a Chenin Blanc (my favourite wine) and a card signed by the GM to congratulate our celebration. What remarkable service this was, since our booking was made minutes before arrival. The location is wonderful if your interested in visiting all the close-by Vineyards. We will definitely return soon.

Great breakPosted May 27, 2015 on Hotels
Great hotel which caters well to family. Lots to do and very friendly staff who actually take care of you (hard to find in the hotel industry anymore as far as I am concerned).

Good quality hotelPosted May 26, 2015 on Hotels
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Spier. The room was beautifully decorated with fresh soft furnishings and high quality sheets. We also liked the fact that each room was a bit different - not mass produced like at large hotels. Breakfast was a treat - we especially liked the pancakes.

Helt fantastisk sted at være, hvor vi kunne hygge os som familie. Værelserne var lækre og det hele var meget professionelt udført.

Late April 2015 stayPosted May 3, 2015 on Hotels
Stayed for 2 nights and did not have time to take many of the activities on offer. Good wine tasting session and quality of food was excellent. During the colder evenings, the coal effect fire was of great use. Rooms need upgrading, but this is in process. Excellent location.
