My room was overpriced for what it was in my opinion. It was very average. The hotel is undergoing significant renovations so there is a lot of public space that isn’t open yet. The best aspects of the hotel were the views of the Wharf as well as the proximity to the Wharf. The staff was generally quite good also. Hopefully this hotel will eventually be upgraded physically to match its prices. Right now it isn’t at the level of their Salamander Hotel in Middleburg.

There for cherry blossom. Like the pathway at back of hotel that goes down rail track down to tidal basin walk path. Need to pay attention where you get off, so you can get back up, especially at night. It is just a little turn entrance. Wished there are coffee makers in the room. Hotel is too high-end to have those things?

It's close to tidal basin so we just walked there just like 9 minutes walk. It was pretty awesome. Safe since there were a lot of people walked there too.

Walkable to the National Mall. It was a spur of the moment decision to experience the Peak Bloom of the Cherry Trees. Choosing this Hotel was a good decision. The hotel was close to the Tidal Basin, staff were very friendly and the accommodation was excellent. Highly recommended.

We've just returned from a 5 day trip to DC staying at the Salamander. The hotel was wonderful and the staff were excellent, really looking after us and making sure we have everything we needed. There were three of us staying (2 adults 1 child) and the room we had (915) was wonderful, with great views over the Potomac and Regan airport etc. The in room facilities were great, large bathroom with Bath and separate shower and the AC worked a treat. Sadly no kettle in the room, but i think this is normal for USA? There were renovations going on during our stay, which meant the swimming pool was closed, however we didn't experience any noise at all, probably because we were on the top floor. The hotel kindly compensated us for the loss of the pool with extra food and drink credit which was appreciated. Overall I'd recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit DC. Especially if you have children. I'd be more than happy to visit again, especially when renovations are complete.

This property is under construction, systems down, can’t give keys, sent to a lounge to eat lunch that looked like a conference room, ordered a Niçoise salad that had 4 pieces of tuna, there was No lobby, No experience. Once in room there was no menu for room service or a phone that had labels for ANY kind of service you may need. When I dialed zero, I was told to go to the website for menu! No bathroom supplies but one tube of lotion. Shower bath soap dispenser was empty. Had to get out of shower and grab hand soap. So dissatisfied and unhappy. Oh, let’s not forget that I asked for a water view and half of my view was obstructed by the building. My window was inset. The next room was protruding out and obstructed the view. Room #955. I paid over $600 for one night and expected more from the Salamander. The middleburg, Va property puts this D.C. property to shame.

First things first: none of this is the staff's fault. However, I cannot recommend booking this at all. The hotel is currently in a remodel, which means that the majority of the lobby is a noisy construction site. The construction carries dust everywhere. It also means that the Spa is straight up closed, and the only food establishment is the "club". The hotel also does not provide the state of things up front, only once you have booked. Lastly, the hotel really is very due for a remodel. Furniture and decoration is outdated, the beds have seen better millennia. Sitting in the chairs was like sitting in a hammock. DO NOT BOOK

The website makes it appear as if this hotel is renovated. The rooms here are 30 years old. My bathroom had stains on the floor and toilet didn’t flush. We left immediately.

Rough start, then a wonderful stay
I was debating whether to give 4 or 5 stars. I was disappointed at check in. The guy checking us in did not know any answers to any of my questions about events happening at the hotel and reservations needed. He also had no idea about anything happening in the area or where anything was. When I asked to speak to the concierge he told me they dont have a concierge service. Also their "complementary car" will only drive you to the National Mall and does not run if its raining. Also our "smart tv" would not pair with our phones so we were limited to just basic tv. So I was very disappointed when we first checked in. HOWEVER, after that everything was so much better. Our room was luxurious. It was clean and posh. The doormen were very friendly. Our 2nd day was so much better. There was a different person running the front desk. She was very friendly and helpful. She apologized for our TV and had a Roku sent up to our room so we could watch movies on our apps. She also had silverware sent up to our room when we ordered in food and the delivery people didnt give us any utensils. It was raining a lot during our stay so she also had housekeeping bring us plastic bags to put our wet things in and the doormen were handing out umbrellas to use. So the TV and car thing were annoying, but I think the beautiful room and friendly helpful staff made up for it.

The Salamander was a lovely property. I took my mom for a quick stay for her birthday where I arranged for a spa day. I was a bit disappointed that we were not able to take advantage of all of the spa facilities because they are currently renovating. Overall experience was a 9/10. We will revisit to get the full spa experience.

The hotel is fantastic. The cleanliness unfortunately lacked. When i walked into the room, sadly the 1st thing i saw. Instead of the stunning view. Was the dirty windows. Then the pillow case had black smudes on it. The tile around the toilet very urine stained. Stunning view tho.

The Salamander Washington, D.C. did not cut any corners to ensure that their patrons were pampered and had all they needed. We spent many years traveling the world, and this hotel is the most opulent, avant-garde, and stunning establishment we have ever visited. We heartily recommend it. The accommodations were fantastic, and the service provided by the valet, doormen, reception desk, restaurant staff, housekeepers, etc. was excellent.

Hotel is great and had great suite. However no coffee pot and no minobar requiring room service for everything. Very different from when it was a Mandarin Oriental. They did sent coffee maker up for $30.
