Very convenient for city centre. Enjoyed our stay.

Posted Aug 28, 2015
Pros: Very convenient for city centre
Cons: Decor.
Location: Excellent position and plenty to do in the area
We enjoyed our stay. The hotel needs modernizing. The prize we paid was excellent. Breakfast was very good indeed. The lift is a bit small.

Nice Stay

Posted Aug 24, 2015
Pros: Location. Easy check in (and out)!!! Powerful, hot shower.
Cons: Some might say the hotel need upgrading, I say it has character! Cheaper breakfast would be nice.
Location: Great location next to Cardiff Castle and very close to the town centre. Rugby (and football) not far away.
Easy check in and out. Great location. Small room but it was used only for sleeping. Shower was excellent. Very quiet even though it is on a main road. Serve our purpose for a short break.

Good location, bed not exactly comfortable

Posted Aug 4, 2015
Pros: Location and the beautiful building
Cons: Better maintenance of rooms, replace old beds, better trained service.
Location: Right outside the castle and on the corner of the city centre :)
The location of The Angel is fantastic, right outside the castle, and walking distance to everything in the city. It also has great character and I liked the decor and furnishing of the public areas. Bonus is the free wifi too! However. The room wasn't exactly comfortable. Yes, it has everything to tick the boxes - a bed, a tv, tea and coffee facilities, a safe, a wardrobe, a hair dryer, a decent bathroom, a chair and a table. But the bed, feels around 50 years old. It squeaks loudly, and I can feel the springs on my back. The air con in the room didn't work :( The glass on the window was cracked, and although I wasn't worried about anyone breaking in, it is surely still a safety issue? We only had one towel in the room. We asked for one to be sent up - never came. It's a good thing that we didn't really spend that much time in the rooms when you travel! The staff were... decent enough. I wouldn't say they were the most efficient of all hotel staff, but I would have expected at least prompt service. While they weren't rude, the way they slowly make their way to you, or knowing that you are there but slowly finishing off whatever they were doing (including chatting with another staff) before making their way to you make you feel like you are intruding on them rather than being served. It's not a bad hotel, it's just a little disappointing. Perhaps, it's a Welsh thing? :)

Nice looking old style hotel, maintenance outdated

Posted Aug 3, 2015
Pros: The hotel has a nice facade and nice features of an old hotel with a character.
Cons: wifi, airconditioning, proper preparation of the room for guests
Airconditioning not working, wifi not available for the 2 days in which we were there. There was one instead of 2 sets of towels in the room booked for two people.

Excellent value in Cardiff city centre

Posted Jul 17, 2015
Pros: Grand but slightly shabby, staff were welcoming and helpful. Rooms are spacious with great views of Bute Park and the castle from rooms at the front.
Cons: The windows didn't work, air con didn't work and the rooms were far too hot
Location: Bute Park and Cardiff castle are opposite and Cardiff arms park next door. Cardiff Museum is a 5 min walk. Everything is on your doorstep!
The hotel is ideally situated opposite Cardiff castle with a wide range of cafes/restaurants nearby. The Angel has its own parking, but visitors can also park in Cardiff Arms Park car park, opposite the hotel and excellent value. The hotel looks very grand but the staff are lovely and welcoming. Our rooms were large and slightly shabby but very clean and surprisingly quiet considering the location. The only negative was that the air con didn't work, the rooms were very warm and it was difficult to open the windows. It didn't spoil the stay though!

Great location, a bit shabby.

Great location, a bit shabby.Stayed eight nights. Great location, Hotel comfortable but rather shabby. Some nights were a bargain, others were very expensive because of the cricket event taking place.
