Overpriced hotel, not a good value for moneyPosted Jun 20, 2017 on Hotels
There are much more nicer hotels in Carmel. La Playa is a historic place, but it does not have an elevator or gym. The staff brings suitcases. The bed is comfortable, but for the money they charge the blankets and towels could be newer. We were in the standard room on the fourth floor. There were only 2 rooms occupied out of 12, but we were given a room next to stairs and above their kitchen. The ventilator on the roof of the kitchen started working at 6 AM. Breakfast was nicer than average, but they charged $35 per day for breakfast and WIFI no matter if you would like to have breakfast there or not. The bathroom was pretty small with a small tub. Street parking. They provide shuttle service to restaurants because the streets are dark and do not have sidewalks. The sodas and water in the fridge are not free. The pool is small. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel is not a 4 star hotel. The wine tasting and cookies at night are not enough for the price they charge. It is more like a winery hotel with the bar working all day. OK for one night stay. Unlikely to go back.

It was nice but not that nice for $500 a night. The room was super small.

Wonderful hotelPosted Jun 4, 2017
Pros: The breakfast was great. Consider offering pancakes instead of waffles all the time
Cons: Better parking
Location: Needed a car if you wanted to see the 17 mile drive or the Big Sur Beach was an easy walk
This was a wonderful hotel and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The drawback was parking - did not know until we got there that there was only curbside parking in a residential area. Not that easy to find. Definitely needed to use your car or the shuttle to get to the town. Was a distance and very dark at night - which the staff warned us about.

Great hotel in a beautiful residential area.Posted May 27, 2017
Pros: It's location, accommodating staff, pristine upkeep and quick walk to the beach.
Location: Nice walk to great shops, restaurants and the beach. Quick access to the 17-mile drive and main highways.
This is my second stay here and as always it was great. The breakfast/brunch was incredible as well as the views of the ocean. Very accommodating staff. Nice touch for the wine tasting in the afternoon as well as the cookies at night. Great opportunity to meet new people in the lobby area. Would highly recommend this to anyone going to Carmel...you won't regret it!
Great locationPosted May 22, 2017 on Hotels
Very noisy rooms with paper thin walls. Advise to ask for top floor if u want a lie in. Great location, cute hotel, nice garden and little pool. Not much of service though. No restaurant

Great historic hotel in a great location...Posted May 3, 2017
This hotel is a beautiful historic building and in a great location. The rooms are a bit small and can get warm because there is no AC but it's nice and cool and night so the rooms cool down quickly with the windows open... the buffet breakfast is very good...
