HideawayPosted Mar 3, 2018
Pros: Spacious and beautifully appointed room
Location: I go there for a secret getaway and stay in the spa, out by the pool or in bed while there.
A hideaway from the hustle bustle of San Diego. This beautiful and elegant resort has a lovely spa and excellent service all around.

Overall good experience with some consPosted Feb 22, 2018
Pros: Pros; Rooms are very quiet and balcony a nice touch. Staff were all kind and helpful Concierge delivered on good restaurant choices
Cons: Staffing at pool- on busy days pool area is a disaster-dirty towels, glasses, and food trays everywhere. Better dining -food quality and options
Location: Near Del Mar Village and beaches- 15-20 minute drive Torrey Pines State Preserve 15-20 minutes La Jolla shores 20 min La Jolla and Sea World 30-40
This is a fairly large pseudo Italian villa set in hills of Del Mar. Decor is heavy on dark wood, gilt, and heavy furniture and fabric. It does not evoke a CA or beach vibe and is more reflective of early 2000s design. While very well maintained, some of the common areas and rooms look a little tired. That said, the grounds are beautiful and immaculate. The tennis courts and pool area are also very nice. Given this, be prepared to pay for resort fees and exhorbitant food prices. Clientele is heavy on conferences during week and families on weekends. It is not walkable to anything you will need a car. Finally -probably not the best choice if hanging at beach all day is your goal. Also realize dining options are limited and reflect exhorbitant resort pricing. Food was serviceable but unremarkable- room service terrible. You will have to drive to access other options. Real issue is staffing. See below regarding pool area. Also one night we tried to order room service, but no menu in the room. We called room service twice over 40 min and no menu, called front desk and no menu. We went to front desk and they produced one instantly. Waited another 40 minutes for grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and salad. The grilled cheese was terrible and cold while salad was tasteless and warm. It’s really the pool staffing problem and room service that prevent me giving this hotel 5 stars. I prefer the Four Seasons Aviara, but husband votes Fairmont.

Great location - hotel was a bit dated (TVs etc)Posted Feb 21, 2018
Pros: Sam and Mark
Cons: Furnishings and TVs a bit dated
Location: Good location. For our visit to UCSD
Mark was excellent on valet service - really friendly and helpful. Also Sam was extremely professional and informative about the area as we were visiting UCSD to look at schools for our son. Both Mark and Sam are a credit to your hotel.

Terrific stayPosted Jan 22, 2018
Everything, as usual, was just outstanding at the Grand Del Mar. It’s a 5-Star hotel and you get 5-Star accommodations and service. The grounds are well manicured, the staff is professional and helpful, and the experience is excellent. We stay here three-four times a year. We call this an oasis within San Diego because it’s never so crowded that you feel as though you’re walking over other guests. We will be back.

The hotel is located on a very beautiful hillside in DelMar San Diego. The customer service from the moment you step out of the car is amazing. This one might get away was exactly what we needed to feel like we’ve been gone much longer than we were. I am definitely coming back for a longer stay.

Beautiful HotelPosted Dec 9, 2017 on Wotif
This hotel is truly beautiful but a little overdone for our particular taste. The decor was over the top and the bars lacked atmosphere. It's a lovely place though and the staff were very attentive. Alex in the Italian restaurant was fabulous.
